I will be teaching Kindergarten. My first teaching job....I would like to do a graph of the day in the morning where they answer a question. Anyone have ideas of topics to use, or websites that have lists of topics?

Really Good Stuff use to have a graphing chart that they sold. I'm not sure if they still have it, but here's a link to the free PDF file of the questions that went with it. Let me know if the link doesn't work for you. I can email it to you if you need me to.

When I graphed with K for my student teaching. I liked to have something they could choose. For instance we did a graph of Dinosaurs. I cut out like 4-5 dino pix & they colored and graphed it!!!

I taught 1st and we brainstormed favorite fair food (it was fair time) and then I found some pix and we graphed 4-5 different things ie elephant ears, cotton candy, caramel corn, caramel apples...

Fall I dumped a bunch of leaves on a desk & had them pick their favorite and tape it on the graph.

I would use a large piece of paper graph it and hang it either in our room as a bulletin board our outside on our bulletin board. It was fun. I tried to do a big class one 1-2 times a month.

Along with making my own topics I also like to let the students decide what they want to graph about as well.

I love the idea of daily graphing!! I teach preschool.... and often have a 'question of the day'... what a great way to learn graphing ~ then to simply graph our question of the day!

    Graphing

Congrats on your first teaching job!

For graphs at the beginning of the year, the use of concrete objects is easier with only 2-3 choices. The first day of school we do a graph of how the kids got to school. We use sneakers (walkers), bus, and car. The kids color them. I cut them out in advance because cutting can really be an issue for some at the beginning of the year.

    Girls/Boys
Other ideas are favorite food (pizza or hot dogs)
Age (I usually have 4, 5, and 6 year olds--you could have birthday cakes with corresponding number of candles)
Type of Shoe (sneaker or sandals)
Eye color (unless you have all brown-eyed students--I have including my own)
