Tomorrow is Brian's Gotcha Day-- the 10th anniversary of his arrival into our family from Korea. It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years, and at the same time I barely remember life without my baby boy.

He gets to choose the restaurant tomorrow. His traditional choice has been the local Japanese restaurant. He LOVES Japanese food, and his sisters hate it, so it's kind of a two-fer for Brian.

I love Gotcha Day. It's a real celebration of our family.

I even have a special song:

    Ta-ra-ra bomsieay, It's Brian's Gotcha Day.
    Ta-ra-ra bomsieay, It's Brian's Gotcha Day.

It also gives him a chance, if he wants it, to focus on the fact that he is adopted.

One year, when he was 6 or so, he asked as we were getting ready to leave the restaurant: "mom, why didn't my other mom just keep me?" So we talked a little about how she was 19 and all alone, and didn't have the money to buy him all the things a baby needs.

I don't think he's asked since then. But celebrating Gotcha Day kind of opens that window each year, you know??
