Okay si I teach high school geometry and English and I was asked to move rooms because one of the math teachers is a guinea pig for an online algebra program and my room was the only one that was equipped to be a computer lab (I didn't have any though) so I packed up my stuff on Friday and the custodians moved it over the weekend into my new room but since my room would not be ready for classroom instruction, I was put in a testing classroom with a sub so I could organize my room, but most of my stuff was put in another room and had to move it myself upstairs and across the campus to my room, but I couldn't get my room up to my expectations because someone pulled the fire alarm and the whole school was evacuated for like 2 hours But, today the ids would be in my new room but it still wasn't done and there was stuff EVERYWHERE. Plus, most of the other teacher's crap was still there and there was an inspection for "cleanliness and saftiness" of my classroom. I got put on the "naughty" list so I lost 2 vacation days because of that. But the main reason for ,e losing the 2 days was because the old teacher had a mini fridge and a microwave in there, it was unplugged and empty. I explained to the inspector my situation and he seemed understanding but I was the only one who got in trouble. I have been in classrooms where there is ants and bugs or there is so much dust you need a mask just to enter the room. But they didn't get written up. I am really mad. I am supposed to have a standard meeting to see how I can improve my classroom with thr inspector and my AP and my P. I don't plan to get my vacation days back because no one in the administration likes me for some reason. Have you been in a similar situation?

Go to the union. You had special circumstances and hadn't been given enough time for moving. I would ask my principal to fight for me knowing everything that was going on.

Don't listen to the person who said to quit - jobs are too hard to find.

This is a new one for me...taking your contracted days away for a messy room...I agree with the others...go to your union.

I'd like to point out that what I've quoted is one sentence.

Aside from that, your post doesn't make any sense to me.

I would quit any day than be treated unfairly. Jobs are easy to come by.

I'd rather have my dignity but that's up for OP to decide.

Why stay in a place where the administration does not even like you? If my boss did not like me I would find that stressful.

I found the post quite clear. What doesn't make sense to me is how pointing out a grammatical error in a rant contributes to the conversation at all.

OP, if you are in a union, check with them about this. I can't imagine a union contact where this would happen. If not, talk to your principal. Ask to have the fridge removed. Explain the situation.

I found it hard to follow simply because it lacked punctuation and paragraph spacing. Maybe with those things I wouldn't have tl;dr'd it. I felt like the OP ought to know that so that he could correct it so that more people could contribute to the conversation.

You get vacation days? I have never heard of a etcher with vacation days.

Maybe you should put what doesn't belong to you out in the hallway.

I thought he meant personal days. We get three a year to use as we please. No one is allowed to ask why we're taking them.

We get vacation days. Start out with ten a year. They are there to cover Christmas and Spring breaks.

Our cleanliness & safety inspections are not done by school staff. They are done by the health department and fire marshall. Neither of them know any extenuating circumstances, and unsafe is unsafe no matter the reason. I got a notice from the fire marshall for having too much stuff in my closet. I had a certain time to fix it. A coworker was cited by the health department for dirty lunch trays. She also had to fix the situation.

Neither of us had any kind of formal write up on the school level, and there were no penalties.

I know that on any school-level evaluation we are free to attach a rebuttal to anything put into our file. I would go that route. I teach in a non-union state, so that option would be out for me.

I'm sorry that you are going through this. Are you in a public school? It doesn't sound like it since they are threatening to take away personal days. That would never fly in a public school here. I would talk to administration about this, someone who trust.

This is my first year at this school. I moved to high school because I didn't like teaching middle school math. I like math like algebra 1 or 2. I came to this school because it has like the best kids and it is right down the street from my house. I also know a lot of parents, students, and teachers at this school.

The Fire Marshall comes in to make sure the fire exits are clear and the fire extinguisher isn't expired. The DOH comes in over the summer and periodically to inspect the kitchen. Our county is trying something new out so teachers will have more organized room.

SO I had my meeting today. I got my vacation days back and had everything moved out that wasn't mine. Now I am going to set my room up in a way that I have never done before. Since I have a different room that was built differently, I am going to put the desks in rows. But they will face each other (the left will face the right side of the room and the right side will face the left) but will be turned slightly to face the board and my technology and desk will be in between the two sections in the back and face the board. And I just got Wi-Fi in my room but it won't be turned on until 3/17. Next week is spring break! Really happy.

Congratulations! I was confident it would work out in the end, considering the circumstances.

When one is frustrated punctuation isn't

always at the forefront and sometimes the words just flow

I always talk with the custodian about how to get rid of stuff. I put prior teacher's personal items in a corner. I had that happen one year and it wasn't until the following October that was able to "throw" the items away.
When it is a matter of junk - I put it in the hallway or staff room with a "FREE" sign on it.
The custodian can be your best friend in these situations.

That was how I found my desk. I saw one outside a classroom, so I walked in and asked why it was out there and said she had 2 so I put a piece of paper on it that said "Move to 422". Mind you that was the same room that I just moved into.
