Talk with your principal. You've been an aide there for a while and have a good rapport, if memory serves. Be casual about it, but know that you are most likely going to stay where you are so they don't have to do another round of interviews for the third grade position.

Have you signed a contract? Are both positions in the same school?

spoke to principal today. It is in the same school, and I was an aide here this year. No i hadnt signed a contract but will very soon.

P said that he wanted me to stay at third grade because i know the reading program.... which is very important to our school. The other third grade teacher will be new to the school so will not know the program. He doesn't want both teachers to be new to it, because it is very high level and complex.

I am fine with it really, maybe i could move another year in the future. Just happy to be teaching!! Especially after being an aide... i know it is hard for an aide to move up to teaching sometimes.

You will be brilliant. Just think of getting to know all those 3rd graders while they're excited to be learning. Then, maybe, you'll get them again when they're pre-teens and need to be reminded that learning can be fun. What a service you'll provide them just by being there!

Glad you talked to the P. And yes, you can always change positions later! In my current school, my 8 years here have gone 2, 3, 2, 3, 3, 1/BSI, 3 inclusion, and back to 2 this year. While I don't recommend switching as much as I have (not always by choice), the opportunity is still there at times!

    But I know you'll enjoy 3rd!

Congrats on third grade. You can always move around once you are settled in the district.
