Leaving in a few minutes for a 6th grade SS position close to home. Got called this morning before 9:00, the interview is at 11:00. I've had no time to prepare, had to throw something together to wear, and my portfolio is incomplete. So I get I get to go in there and wing it. My hair is also desperately in need of a cut and recolor to get the gray out. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. We really need a job to work for us. Thanks.
I bet this is your best interview ever! They KNOW they caught you by surprise. So when you wow them, they'll be really impressed!!!
Thinking about you suzerich!! They must be really interested if the interview was such short notice!! Go wow them!
sometimes winging it can be the best, because THEY know they caught you off guard..and also..YOU have a different mindset probably. YOU know that you didn't have time to prepare so you know that you just have to go in there and do the best you can and that's all you can do.... Sometimes there isn't as much time to give yourself a crazy amount of anxiety...so you might come across more relaxed! Who knows!Q I think you're going to do awesome! GOOD LUCK.
I feel like those "random" interview calls are the best - because you don't have time to get nervous for it - you don't have time to practice everything over and over, etc. You just tell it like it is, and they pick you because of it!
I had surgery last May and was already due for a haircut before the surgery. Then I had to wait 6 weeks after the surgery to get my haircut. I had an appt but then I got a call for an interview just a few days before that appt. Considering they shaved part of my hair underneath and cut some off one side, I was embarrased to go in for an interview. Luckily it was my own boss (from an aide to a teacher) so I told her that I didn't mind if it was just us two but if I have a hiring panel (and I did) then I really couldn't stand the thought of going in with my hair like it was. I told her that first impressions count and I wanted to be off on a good foot. Hehe, she rescheduled.
The interview went well. I really liked the principal. His background is world geography, so I think this position is a little more special. He seemed impressed by my history and Anthropology backgrounds. The only question that he asked that I was a little worried about was classroom management, but I told him about a couple of episodes I had subbing of the kids testing me, and that I would like to put together some type of a parent/student/teacher contract, and rewards/consequences. He did discuss that the district has inclusion classes, and we discussed additional classes available through Region 10. I really like it, the school is only about 15 minutes from my son's school, and I got there in about 30 minutes from my house. There are 74 sixth graders next year, and I would be the only 6th grade SS teacher. They use some type of K. Coping (can't remember the name of it) to plan lessons, but it is up to the teacher to decide what to teach. I asked about technology and mentor teachers. It went really well, and definitely lifted my spirits, even if I don't get the job. If I get the job, I'd like to use weaving as a theme. It is one thing that every culture does, and would be a cool way to tie things together.
This happened to me today too(I wrote another thread)...but yea I think I did well cuz I didn't have time to prepare/get really nervous and over prepare. Maybe we both will get jobs from our last minute interviews....though I'd have to go through a 2nd interview first!
OMG! Me too. I get all excited b/c mine went well too and I'm like don't do that cuz you have to wait til Monday and then go on a 2nd interview but yea it's a great pick me up! Good Luck to ya
