I have several boys and they get a little moody sometimes during the day. I have discovered that singing songs put them in a better mood. Do you have any cute songs or icebreakers to share?

If we are waiting sometimes we will sing:

5 little monkeys, 5 little speckled frogs, 5 little ducks, or I will put on a CD and do going on a bear hunt (their favorite) or another activity. I really like the Greg and Steve CD's.

    "Down By the Bay"
    "Ooples and Boonoonoos"
    "Magalena Hagalena"
    "Aiken Drum"
    "The Name Game"

All good, silly songs with educational value!

I was going to say that song. It puts me in a better mood as well!!!

When I was a sub we'd make rain...First you rub your hands together, then snap fingers (some can do it), with pointer fingers bang on your shoes & then pat your legs. At the end we clapped our hands together for the thunder. This was also a great way to get their attention, because I would change it up and after the thunder, I'd ask for their eyes!!!

Can you turn on the radio for them? Sometimes I do this and we play a quick game of freeze dance to get the extra energy out.

Sometimes they know the song on the radio and sing along.

How about that song about shaking your sillies out?

I have lined up the chairs by two's and we do "wheels on the bus."

Sometimes I will have the kids stand up and we use a beach ball to play a game. I will give them a letter or a sound and they give me a word, I will give them a word and they give me a rhyming word and so on! They love it and takes up a few minutes.
