I got a phone call completely out of the blue today from a school offering me a job teaching year one for the last three weeks of this term!
I was a little shocked to get the call because here school years start in late January and I have not had any contracts at all his year and have barely got any relief work either. But it's nice to know that schools (at least this one) know I am still available, turns out the teacher I am replacing requested me personally too. She is a lovely lady who has been personally requesting me for the past two years when she was a third grade teacher. It's good timing too since I am working on my cover letter/resume getting it ready to send out to schools for next year positions so it'll be good to have some recent work on it :)

    That's wonderful news.

I wonder if you could ask her for a reference letter when it's done? She seems to like you enough to provide one, and it would speak volumes!!!

Congrats! I would also ask for a letter of reference. Seems like she really likes you!

Thanks everyone. It was very unexpected but comes at just the perfect time...last three weeks of this term and then the start of next term is when I plan to send my resume/package out to the schools so will be great having recent experience on the resume. I was worried about not having any contracts from this year. And grade one...I love the littlies, I am Early Childhood trained but schools normally like to put me in upper grades because "we know you can handle them". Don't think I will actually get to see the teacher I am replacing but if I do I might try and work into conversation about getting a reference :)

You could ask an administrator to come check out something you are teaching. You never know where THAT might lead... Think about it!

I would ask towards the end or take the advice scteachintx gave and ask admin to come in and watch you. They could probably write you a nice letter too. Sounds very promising!
