I have been subbing at several schools so far this year and I got a call Thursday for a 4 week job that may turn out to be longer. The teacher is very ill and they are not sure if she will be able to return so they wanted a certified teacher to step in. I did a practicum there about 6 years ago and I think someone remembered that I have my degree now but no classroom of my own. I start Monday in first grade which is my favorite. I have a friend who works there (but she said she did not give them my name) and she said the grade level team is very helpful and they collaborate on planning. School is probably 7 miles from my house. I am so excited!!

Congratulations! I hate that the regular teacher is sick, but it's good that they have a certified teacher who can step in to take her place in the meantime.

Perhaps this could open some more doors for you. :) Best of luck! Keep us updated on how things are going.

Oh, first grade is wonderful! Congratulations! I hope the ill teacher recovers completely, but not before you dazzle the school with your ability!

I love my class. The first graders have already had 3 teachers, including me this year. Their teacher is fighting cancer and she will be in and out for treatment. So thankful that I can step in and the children not have to get used to several subs this year.

I just found out that I will be with this class longer than I originally thought. Right now they have been with me longer than the original teacher. Things are getting easier every day, I know a little bit about each child, I know where things are located in the classroom and I know how to find resources when planning lessons. So all in all, it's been a good experience. My AP keeps coming in to observe which makes me nervous but at least she can get a feel for how I teach. Maybe a real job next year?

Glad to hear it's been going well. I think it's great the AP is coming in to observe you, it shows she cares about how you're doing. Hope it continues to go well for the rest of the teacher's leave.
