I have a gift card to Barnes and Noble and want to get a good PD book. I want something with more strategies, not just theory. I was looking at Teach Like a Pirate or Teach Like a Champion 2.0 but don't know if either of these are applicable to sped. Any suggestions? I'll be teaching 5-7th grade self contained (academic level).

I am not sure if you can find it at Barnes and Nobel but if you want a book from the sped student perspective you should read The Bus People by Rachel Anderson. Warning it's intentionally written from the perspective of people with disabilities. It tells the story of students who ride the special Ed bus and depicts much of the babyish and dismissive treatment that students with disabilities face. I know it's on Amazon for like 78cents
