Hi guys, I’m not a teacher myself however my girlfriend is going to teachers college and I was looking at getting her some gifts to say congratulations for getting accepted to both programs at her university. I was wondering if you guys might have any input on things that might be good ideas for her just starting out. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

A pen will be the best option for a teacher.

I believe that best present is something handmade. But not everyone are able to do something with hands. I like some gift baskets where there are many little cute and useful things.

30 years ago I left industry to train as a teacher. The company refused to give me voluntary redundancy. The store keeper heard this and raided the stores to give me a 'teacher's pack' it was basically a crate of stationary including pens markers. Packs of paper stapler hole punch chalk folders Tec. I still have some of it. These days I would give white board pens and other stationary. Also for a student I always give beer vouchers. In the US these vouchers are green and has pictures of presidents on them in the UK they have the queen on them

These are all great ideas so far guys thank you! I've got her lots of stationary stuff and some organizing things for at home, I think what I want now is a name plate for when she has her own desk. If anyone thinks of anything else that might be nice to have that would be great too!

I nice bottle of wine (or Scotch, etc. depending on preference) to be opened upon securing her first teaching job.

If you want to go sentimental, buy a planner to give her when her program starts (I’m assuming in the fall). Work ahead to write a comment in each date that includes a new reason why you love her or why she is awesome. So when you give it to her, she will be surprised with 365 different sweet/positive comments, one for each day. Guaranteed to get you major brownie points.

I do like the bottle of wine for when she secures her first job idea! That's great! But she has a whole lot of cue cards with all the reasons I love her already haha

I would love a gift card for places I could buy things as I needed them.

I had so much cute, yet useless, stuff my first year. My most useful items are those I buy as the need arises.

Get her a gift card for a local teacher store or Teacherspayteachers.com.

I think you can buy chalk markers for her instead of chalkboard because chalk dust is really bad for the lungs.

I love my Erin Condren planner. It was actually a gift to me from a colleague! Something that I imagine she'd want to design, for sure so best to get a gift card - you can personalize with photos, etc and I even had mine printed en español as I teach Spanish:) I also second a teacherspayteachers gift card, or gift cards for shopping for teacher-friendly wardrobe (for those of us that still teach in person!) - Target, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, etc. I'm on my feet almost all day & I've found many great pairs of work shoes at Rack.

I'm not sure what your $$$ range is so I'll try a variety...
Papermate flair felt tip pens (I could not have enough)
Chalk markers (again, I could not have enough but make sure they are quality)
    TPT gift card
    Super Teachers .com subscription
    Dansko shoes (or Sanita)
good tote (like the thirty-one) or lunch bag
Festive socks or shirts (or such) each holiday is often a hit with kids
    Good water bottle (or thermos)

This thread was started almost two years ago. I hope that the OP has managed to find some gifts in that amount of time! :p

To the point, if it were me I always appreciate good clicky pens in a variety of colors, sticky notes, and notepads.

Never in my career have I ever used chalk markers. I haven't used actual chalk since I taught at the university, like 20 years ago.
