My good friend's father is turning 60 and they're having a party for him..as far as I know it's at a large restaurant and if it's anything like my friends 16th bday party it's kind of like a reception atmosphere.

My question is...do we bring a gift? I've never been to a party for someone older who wasn't immediate family and in a smaller setting. So I have no clue what to do. Also, if we do take a gift...I have no idea what to get him. :help:

A gift is nice, but probably unexpected...you could get him a gift card to his favorite restaurant...or if he has hobbies, a gift card to a store for that...I'm sure you'd be fine though with a card and a heartfelt note:love:

A bottle of wine, a gift card to a local restaurant, a book.

I would hesitate to go to a birthday party empty handed.

I was just going to say a bottle of wine...

Maybe some fancy coffee or something that the person may not by for themself!!!

I mean of course we were going to get a card. But he doesn't drink and he has his own dental practice so when I think of getting something for someone who seems to have everything...I'm at a loss for ideas!

How about a nice plant for his office?

Or a donation in his name?

How about a poster to put on his ceiling in the office?!?
I remember looking at those for when I went to the dentist.

I think a card with a note is appropriate.

If it's your good friend's father, a gift would be nice. Ask your friend for ideas. If your friend tells you a gift isn't necessary, at least get him a card.

Funny, Peter and I were talking about this the other day. How about a framed photograph for one of his examination rooms?

My plastic surgeon has the coolest photo in one of his exam rooms. It's a bunch of men, maybe 8 or 10, on a sailboat during what looks like some sort of a race; you see other crews in the background. It's a windy day; the waves have whitecaps. The crew is all dressed in white, and they all look to be having such fun!!! I could stare at that picture for quite some time; it's just mesmerizing for some reason.

You can have a star named for someone for about $20.
