Our secretaries have been very stressed out the past few days with the opening of school. The district is all in a tizzy, things are only being half-done, and the secretaries unfortunately are bearing the brunt of it- through no fault of their own. I would like to give them a little something Monday for our first day of school, just as a thank you for all their work over the summer, but I'm at a loss as to what to get. There are three of them, and I don't want to break the bank. Would a bottle of wine be appropriate? Is there anything else you can think of that a stressed out secretary would appreciate, but is generic enough that I could get the same for three different women? Any thoughts are appreciated!
I wouldn't feel comfortable bringing a bottle of alcohol onto campus or carrying it around if someone gave it to me as a gift. I think there is probably a better option.
Small gift cards to Starbucks, maybe, each with a nice card that expresses your sentiments and a handwritten note: my guess is that the being-thought-of is going to loom larger than the gift per se.
It's hard to go wrong with chocolate. How about gettting a bag of Hersheys Hugs, and one of Kisses, and breaking them into 3 groups...perhaps each in a cutesy coffee mug??? Or how about hitting the bakery and providing breakfast pastries? Or a small bouquet of flowers each for their desks?
Personally I don't think a bottle of wine is at all appropriate. Coffee and donuts or bagels would be a nice gesture.
I think a small bouquet of flowers for each secretary would be perfect. Something nice they could look at all day and cheer them up.
Are you thinking of buying for all of the secretaries in your district or just the one in your building? If just the one in your building, how about of GC for a manicure? A hand massage is usually included as well as lotion/softening. In my mind this would be perfect for secretaries who work with their hands all days typing, filing, putting bandages on booboos...
Bagels and cream cheese, muffins, and coffee would be appreciated, I'm sure. I use to love when folks brought in morning goodies for our staff. No wine, no overly personal things. Gift cards are always welcomed.
Thanks for the replies, everybody. I feel a bit like my school is filled with alcoholics, as wine is a very common gift in the building (I've never given it, but have received from others), but I will select another way to go for this. I like the chocolates idea, and I do plan on including a note- as someone said, I'm sure that WILL be the most Appreciated part. I think I will go with either chocolates or perhaps a nice scented candle. Thank you!
I remember once a few of us teachers covered the phones for them after school for an hour or so. Often, they have to work through their lunches, so they appreciated just sitting in the staff lounge and relaxing with us fielding the phones, parents, etc.
