I’ll be going out on maternity leave next month. (Ahhhh I’m having a baby!!?!)

Anywho, my long term sub has been coming in to observe and work with my students. He’s great and eager for the opportunity. He just finished his BA and this will be his first time subbing/teaching. I’d like to leave him a small gift. I was thinking something along the lines of a survival kit, maybe? Ideas?

Those sound like great ideas! A note with it, too, that he might be able to look back at during the time?

Also, at the end (depending how long it is), it might be neat to have all the kids write a letter or note. My maternity leave position ended, 3-4 months in, with a decorated box (i.e. huge boxes of reams of paper) that was filled with tons of books -- each kid had brought in a book if they could, she had added several books -- essentially a start to my library that began with books from the first "true" kids (i.e. not from subbing/student teaching) that I taught independently. I'll never forget that.

My first job as a long-term sub position fresh out of university. The teacher I was covering left me a cute bulletin board set with a note to turn the classroom into my own. It was a really sweet gesture.

Survival kit idea is wonderful: Advil, chocolate, gum/mints, hand sanitizer, and maybe a couple of other things I'm forgetting.
