Affordable Gift Ideas? Okay, so the holidays are fast approaching and I need to find gifts for my gaggle of relatives, but as a 25-year-old dude, my gift-choosing skills are lacking. My budget is quite small, so I'd like to get something simple and affordable for everyone, maybe an interesting coffee table book or something along those lines. Any ideas?
Try searching on Sierra Trading Post, Amazon and Overstock for good deals. Set your budget and stick to it. That's what I'm doing.
They are all over the place. There are my grandparents who are in their 90s, my parents and two sets of aunts and uncles in their 60s, two brothers and their wives, two male cousins and their respective partners (one female, one male) all in their early to mid-30s, one 15-year-old female, and my 1 and 2-year-old nieces. The little ones are easy to shop for, but I am stumped on everyone else.
Flowers and plants for the grandparents? Thick, warm socks with tread on the bottoms? I am in my 60's. I enjoy restaurant certificates or maybe kitchen towels? Do they like to read? Magazine subscriptions? Special coffee or tea? Bottles of wine or what they like? Mid thirties…Wine? Special blends of coffee or tea? Restaurant certificates, wine/cheese, crackers baskets that you can easily make up yourself. 15 year old female…ask what kind of music she likes, movie certificates, hobbies? Yes, the little kids are easy!
Consumable gifts: Bottles of wine Gourmet coffees Fruit baskets (Harry and David has great fruit boxes)
For anyone of the "doesn't need any more STUFF" age-- hit a Trader Joe's or Fairway and stock up on treats-- jellies, cookies or muffins to go with them, interesting soups and so on. PUt them into a not-too-big laundry basket. For the brothers and the wives and the cousins and partners, how about movie gift certificates? For the 15 year old girl, how about either an Alex and Ani bracelet or a sample package from http://ibbeautiful.com/pages/subscribe Or order just about anything ( a hoodie is always good) from Hollister. http://www.hollisterco.com/shop/us?cmp=PDS:09212011HCOGBTM&kid=36547cc8-c679-cc49-624e-0000301a635f -- go straight to the "sale" link.
My family loves gift bags of goodies. Go to a Trader Joe's or another store and pick out goodies that they would not buy themselves. Cheese, crackers, coffee, candy, imported cookies. At this time of year, the stores have more "goodie" types of food.
IOU coupons for yardwork, errands, etc, would be helpful for the older folks, and free except for your time.
