I know that we've had this thread before but maybe things have changed...

I'm two weeks away from school starting. What are some ways to "get you in the mood" for school? I'm struggling a bit...

    I don't know. I haven't figured that out yet. I guess I'm there with my co-workers, I'll be a little bit happier.

I get excited to get a new list of kids and meet them. We've had a little bit longer summer than usual and I've really been able to spend a lot of time with my kids. I like reading school related things right before I go back. I am planning to read Choice Words http://www.amazon.com/Choice-Words-...8&qid=1344888087&sr=1-1&keywords=choice+words next week, but I also enjoyed 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny http://www.amazon.com/Third-Graders-One-Class-Bunny/dp/0743272390 and may pull it out again. I saw this speaker last week and found his story incredible (he only shares a fraction of it here): http://www.huffingtonpost.com/adam-saenz/from-jail-to-harvard-why-_b_1747252.html

I'm not feeling it yet this year either-I think it's because I still feel like I have so much to do before next week-more anxiety than dread.

Setting up my classroom starts getting me back in "school mode". I have to go in on Wednesday for a meeting, and after that I plan on sorting through everything in my classroom that I had to lock up for the summer. We don't officially go back until 8/27, but I will have everything ready to go before then.

Ima Teacher, your response reminded me of an image that one of my coworkers always sets as her Facebook profile pic right before school starts!

This is me this year as well! Definitely has to do with my awesome little girl and my new son! Not feeling that going back to school vibe and I was even in to set up some of my classroom last week.

I hate to see summer end!!!

No matter how much I love my job, I would much prefer to spend life with my family.

Once I get to school, I'll be back in the swing of things. But for now, it's not about getting in the mood, it's about squeezing the last little bits out of summer

I'm never fully in the mood until I see those nervous, sweet faces looking at me. But these next 3 weeks are going to be about prepping my classroom and then maximizing my free time at home!

I'm definitely with Alice on this one. I have the next 6 days planned with something "fun" for each one. I've had a very relaxing summer and do not want to give it up readily. That being said, I will be heading out school in the next couple of days as well as I begin next week. (Students don't start until next Thursday.)

Going shopping for my classroom definitely gets me in the mood. But I've been ready to go back for awhile. I'm done having no routine and lots of freedom. I want a routine. I cannot wait to go shopping for my classroom on Monday.

I'm never eager to return to work, but I do what I gotta do. I don't do anything really to get myself "in the mood". I go to bed late, just about right up until the night before work. I just wake up to my alarm & get ready. At least with the position I have, I never have to start working with the kids until 2-3 weeks after they start. It takes that long to plan & get ready. All the SLPs in my district don't start until then.

I guess I am never really ready to go back either, but I show up on the day I am due to return and well...it is what it is...For some reason, this summer went way too fast!
