Woohoo! I went to get gas last night, kind of dreading it since my car was almost empty, even though gas was 2.14 (which believe it or not is high for the area I live in, even though not compared to other areas), and gas was $1.99 in the town I live in! (Although I remember when I first started driving and thinking it was horrible when gas went to a little over a dollar, lol!)

It went down a bit, $2.44 a gallon now at the BP Amaco.

You'd think they'd stop fluctuating like this and go back down to $1-something a gallon. Man, I feel sorry for everyone driving trucks, mini-vans, and SUVs.

We ditched the Suburban for a Ford Taurus Wagon just in time. Last look at our prices (this morning on the way to work) we are at $2.85. By the time I leave I expect it to be at least $5 a gallon!

Our prices dropped considerably today... I think they were 2.20+ yesterday, and we just filled up at 1.99. :) (Never thought I'd be excited about getting gas for 1.99!)

Man, I can remember a time where I was filling up for $1.11 (at the most) a gallon for gas and 72¢ (at the least) a gallon for gas. Those were the days!

I am still in shock - was out last night and saw unleaded regular for $1.94; I pulled in and got some even though I had about half a tank. Better come down my way, Glenda!

Me too, I went to Cape Girardeau, about an hour away from where I live, and we went through Jackson where it was $1.83/gallon! I'd already filled the car up for 1.99 before leaving town.

Missy - Where are you finding the "cheap" gas prices in the Dayton area?

Hubby and I went to the movies down by the Dayton Mall on Saturday and then went out to dinner. We took Hwy 48 north from there so that we could get a raspberry and peanut butter "Killer Brownies" from Dorothy Lane Markets. I was looking at the gas prices all the way. The cheapest I saw was 2.09.

Half of the stations here are $2.12, while the other half are $2.09. Wal-Mart's the cheapest at $2.09 - 0.03 (shopping card)= $2.06.

BTW ~ Has anyone else noticed that WalMart is now charging for the gas/gift cards? It's only 3 cents, but how chincy (wow...I've never tried to spell that before!) is that?

I hadn't noticed that. I'll have to tell my mom to look out on that end. I buy mine using a credit card so I can build my credit.

Well- we did it. We bought the bikes and the children's seats. Boy, I really need to work on my cycling skills. Not much of a cycler, but I'm determined not to spend ALL of my summer funds on gas!!! ($2.80 today)

We live close enough to stores to make shopping easy, Costco trips could be interesting, but my husband is looking for some kind of trailers for the back that we can tote stuff in... groceries, other items. I really need to get my legs ready for this. I'll probably end up cycling to softball practice and games, it's all downhill from the game field, so that won't be too bad.

Glenda - just saw your message.
Try the stations at the Dayton -Yellow Springs Road exit off 675. Also, I sometimes see low prices on Dorothy Lane.

I don't remember the name of the company that actually owns the stations, but they are popping up in front of all the WalMarts around here. They have cash cards in the store that you buy to purchase the gas with. If you use the cash cards (or your WalMart credit card) you get a 3 cent discount/gallon on the gas. If your Sam's store has a pump, you save 5 cents a gallon with your Sam's card (the machine scans your card before you pump.)

$2.13 here. Can't believe it just keeps going up. Where's all that oil that Bush the imperialist war monger stole from the peace loving government of Iraq? (that's sarcasm...subtle but sarcasm) $15 barely moves the needle on my truck. But six bucks and change is still a weeks worth of commuting on the murdercycle! Every time I buy gas, I remember the time when I was 13 or 14 that my dad cussed out the gas station attendant (now I'm dating myself) because gas was absolutely outrageous 35 cents a gallon. It was hilarious, he actually asked the guy how he sleeps at night and told him the next time he wants to rob someone he should use a gun! Don't know about you guys but I'd be tickled pink with $1.50 a gallon right now.

It's not really a gas card. You can get the Wal-Mart credit card and use it, or you can get a shopping/gift card and put money on it to use. My mom just puts $20 on the shopping card every time she goes shopping. When she pulls to the pump she uses it just like a credit card, except you already have the credit on the card.

Our gas prices are dropping a penny or two a day. Today the low prices were 2.06.

Missy - Thanks for the info! Hubby works in Kettering - at the old Gentile Station. Next time we need gas, he can check it out. (Doesn't one of the TV or radio stations have an online list of gas stations with low prices?)

Yep, that is the shopping/gift card. The Wal-Mart credit card is newer and actually is a credit card. You can use that any where that takes the affiliated credit card company (i.e. Discover).

My uncle just came back from San Diego and told me the prices of gas out there. Crazy amounts. But at least here in NJ we don't have to pump our gas they do it for us!

I haven't seen any Texas posts on this thread so I'll put in my two cents. Gas went up 5 cents today to $2.24 where I am but the major city closest to me is $2.38. However, I drive a diesel truck and it has been $2.39 for several months. In July in Colorado we paid $2.75 for diesel! Yikes, right now I drive about 300 miles per week (down from 650 miles per week going to college). I REALLY need a job to pay for the fuel!
