I had a parent tell me the other day that all her daughter (a second grader) wanted for Christmas was an over head projector and nothing else. She found one E-Bay. Poor little thing wants to be a teacher when she grows up and she wanted one to play school with a younger sister. Any other funny requests that you've overheard?
That's cute! I used to love playing school when I was little. My cousin (now a teacher) had my aunt (a teacher) buy her a gradebook for her birthday once.
How cute! Sounds like something I would've wanted. I did go through several whiteboards, but never a projector.
I think the acid "is he real??" request came from my son. He wrote Santa that he wants a white Christmas. How exactly would a fake Santa manage that???
Well, you could always order a ton of that Steve Spangler's insta snow stuff and create some snow outside of your home. And, if he asks why it only snowed by your home, explain that no one else asked for snow.
Ha hahaha that's so cute! I asked for an overhead projector when I was little too. I didn't get it though!
The mother tried her best to talk her out of it, but that's all she asked for. She's just a little doll.
At least she didn't ask for a smart board!! A friends child asked for a rainbow. Yep--a real rainbow. She wants to meet the leprechaun at the end. She has been fascinated with it for a while.
When my friend's daughter was in Kindergarten she asked for a "clap on-off" (the clapper). She didn't ask her parents though...she wrote it in class on her letter to Santa. Her mom saw it (and the teacher told her about it, my friend is a teacher in the school) and got it for her. lol
I have a kid who wants a document camera and a projector as well. He's really into electronics. It has nothing to do with wanting to be a teacher. Pretty funny though!
Alice, thinkgeek.com sells fake snow in a jar. The funniest request I heard was a couple years ago when all my sister wanted was a typewriter and a paper shredder. haha. She played with them at work with mom and wanted her own. You should have seen santa's face on that one. lol.
My kids are New Yorkers-- snow snobs. There will be NO FAKE SNOW at our house. It's the real thing or nothing at all!
I was a kid like that once.. I had my own gradebook and filing cabinets of school work I had saved for the future! Ahh the trip down memory lane... ;-)
I was that kid too. My sibs hated "playing" school with me because I actually made them do work and I tried to make it as long as actual school - like all day. haha.
I have another cute gift request. Our sp. ed teacher's son is in kindergarten at our school and loves to help the janitor clean the rooms after dismissal. She informed us that he asked a relative for a mop bucket (the kind that squeezes the extra water from the mop, like the janitor uses) and a desk mover for Christmas. Priceless!
I played school with my siblings too. I would slap their hands when they wouldn't do right. I honestly taught my brother & sister how to read before they started school. I'm going to look for an old grade book to give to the mom to add to her Christmas. I may not have such an outdated item any more?? These posts have been so cute and funny. Thanks everyone for sharing.
I haven't had any students like that, but I have a cousin who's just like that. She's 7 and she LOVES to play school. I asked my aunt for ideas of what to get her for Christmas this year and she said she really wants a pointer. LOL So I bought her a teacher pointer and I got her a plan book, some workbooks, stickers, and other teaching stuff. I did the same thing for her last year and she loved it. She still uses it. It's so cute. And she always ALWAYS asks me about my class and my classroom.
That is funny!! My 2 1/2 yr old wants a washing machine... a toy one she saw in the Walmart toy sale paper.
My son wanted a classroom for his birthday one year. We put up a large dry erase board and bulletin board on his bedroom wall. We got a desk for his room. My mom had some student desks from when she had owned a pre-school so we put 4 of these lined up in front of the board. My mother-in-law and mom got him gift cards to the local teacher supply store. He was able to get bulletin board supplies, grade books, and other stuff from there to complete his "classroom." We sold that house 5 years later when he was 11 years old and had outgrown his classroom. The people that we sold the house to had a 4 year old daughter who is still getting use out of his "classroom."
If you are in the right part of NY you got plenty of snow today! Tell him that Santa had to deliver early!!!
Not sure about Christmas presents but I do have some kids who love school. On our last day before the holidays we had a games day - they could play any game, they were even allowed to bring games from home. 5 of the girls played school. One of them was the teacher and the rest were students. They even got old worksheets from the scrap paper basket so they could do actual work. Gotta love 'em.
