    I'm 2 for 2 at DonorsChoose.org !

My digital cameras got funded in the middle of the school year.

Tonight, I just learned that the 3 classroom sets of books (60 books!) was fully funded!

    ROCK ON!

    Any tips?

My class rug was just posted. I hope it gets funded by August so we can have a nice new rug to start the school year with!

Yea, Doug! It's cool, huh? :)

Kteach ... I think mine got funded for 2 reasons. 1. my school falls into their poverty category. 2. the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches funds for projects that prepare students for higher education.

    That's awesome!

I've been thinking about posting a request or two on there. Do you have to write anything up or do you just list the things you need? If you did a write-up, would you mind sharing it here? I'd love to copy it! :)

Cassie, yes, you have to do a write up. But, the site walks you through it step by step and they provide examples of good write ups. The writeup needs to be specific to your request. The materials have to come from their vendors (but they use a lot of common vendors). It is a VERY user friendly service.

After my first funding, they sent a kit that I had to complete. This time, I had the choice to complete the kit online (the kit includes a thank you letter from me, thank yous from my students, disposable camera to capture photos of the materials in use ... the online kit lets you upload your own photos).

    Check it out!

It isn't something you have to complete in one sitting ... you can start a request and think on it before posting it.

Congrats! Mine got some money, but didn't get fully funded so it was a no-go for me. Glad to hear others have had luck though. It's awesome that this organization exists and clearly does work for many.

    Beezus,
I'm not sure there is a secret. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation match funds to donors of certain types of projects, both of mine have been 1/2 funded by the Gates Foundation ... I think they focus on projects that prepare students for higher ed.

    ku_alum, congratulations!!!

Did you email all of your friends like they suggest? I didn't and so far I am 1/2 funded and stuck. I just felt like I could have asked my friends in the first place, but I didn't want to do that - that's why I went to donorschoose!

Congratulations, ku_alum! It's been a good time for me at Donor's Choose as well. We are working on our Thank You packet for a moon phase kit and rocket launcher. Last night I got the notification that I was fully funded for purchasing a class set of Little House on the Prairie. (Replacing the set that is so rundown we taped for days on them!)

I am also 2 for 2 within a month! I emailed my family and friends but made sure they knew that I wasn't expecting them to donate, just to forward the email. My second project was almost fully funded by strangers.

I guess I'm just inpatient. I only have 26 bucks so far...and that's from my mother, who also has a project up!

I'm 4 for 4. The gates foundation has helped tremendously for it....

I've gotten a set of 30 atlases, a document camera, a set of dictionaries, and a set of Compton's encyclopedias. My classroom is research heaven (or perhaps hell for the students......)

I've been extremely fortunate using donorschoose. I've had 11 projects funded -- this year!!! Working at an inner city, high poverty school, this has helped more than you can imagine.

I never thought my last one would get funded -- because it wasn't "flashy" enough. People like to fund games, specific books, learning centers, hands-on manipulatives -- but my last proposal was for 3-ring binders to make my BEAR binders.

Those who have one that has been listed for a while, don't give up. I've had several that got funded right at the last second.

It is a fabulous organization. I can't tell you how much these funded projects have meant to my classroom this year. I honestly feel a bit guilty sometimes, when all of my colleagues are out of construction paper and such, and I have stacks of it thanks to one of the grants. But then I remind myself that I told them all about it at the beginning of the year, and they never chose to do anything about it.

Here's to hoping that everyone's proposals get funded! :)

I have had three funded this week.... yes, I said this week! The military push has really helped. I have had 8 funded this school year. I am going to send a thank you to Stephen Colbert!
