For people who use teachersk's match card system - here are some ways to incorporate functional skills that I've been using in my k-5 ASD classroom.

Or, if you just get generally excited about looking at other people's classrooms.........::) And functional skills. ;)

Counting nickels and pennies w/visual cue to change from 5's to 1's.

Counting money and matching prices/items to amounts

    Easier holiday chart

harder holiday words and match month to holiday

bus schedule and match bus stop/time of arrival

a set of menus for places we will visit on CBI

adding prices of foods using a calculator

matching prices of foods to the listed menu price

    adapted recipe

    match ingredients to amounts

adapted job schedule - kids match what day of the week with what job or break is that day

match day of week to lunch foods using adapted lunch menu chart

After doing these activities during functional skills lessons, the match cards (along with the charts and menus, where appropriate) go in the kids' independent work stations. They are rocking and rolling with them!

    Love these!

Have you discovered how you can virtually teach any skill in this format? I'm telling you I need to trademark it. Haha.

Parents will be getting "match card method of instruction" into their kids IEPs one day.

Emmalux, sorry for the delay (lol) - but I will be posting later today with a detailed run down of how to get started with the Match Card System.

Absolutely love it! Alright so now that I'm doing making workbox tasks for the year. (I did 15!) It's time to get started on match cards. I'm thinking functional words and money card sets to begin. How you do think creating a defined workboard with velcro on it would work?
