I am taking the FTCE Professional Education Test on July 10, 2015. I have been studying the terms in the cliff notes 3 ed prep book and tried to do well on the practice tests but I have difficulty on some of the situational questions. Can anyone offer any tips when taking the test? I hear from some people that it is common sense, but for people who test well common sense has nothing to do with it Appreciate any last minute feedback
Professional Exam I just took the exam yesterday and this was the hardest exam I have ever taken! It was difficult because there seemed to be two correct answers in many of the questions. After I made it about half way through I realized that it was set up in order of the competencies, and if you knew what competency it was referring to then the answer became more obvious. It was still very difficult and I am so relieved it is over!
I gather you passed? I figured out they were going in order towards the end but it did not help as I had questions that could not be found in a study guide. BF Skinner and knowing some state staue number. I found a tutor and he has told me that the whole test is made up by non educators and it has to do with critical reading strategies. I just hope that helps?
Hello! I took this test yesterday, and failed. I go to UCF, I have passed all of my required FTCE exams (except this one), I have received an A in all of my education courses, I have attended workshops and have bought multiple study guides. I have never failed a test in my life until I took this test. I am quite upset and let down too... the majority of the questions I had never even heard of, or, I did not know the "best" answer, given the classroom is a situational environment. I plan to take it again asap, as this is a graduation requirement. I am not sure what to do in order to improve my ability to pass. I will continue to study and hope for the best.
@UCFEdmajor I know the feeling! I also just took the test as well--I also failed. Prior to the test: - Attended two workshops - Bought a study guide who has been written and reviewed by four doctoral professionals at UCF - Passed all required education classes at UCF, with an A - I have passed the FTCE Mathematics and GKT - I have also never failed any given test... ever I know I can pass the test now that I have taken it once (now that I know what will be on the test). I am just upset that 95% of the content I have been taught (thus far) was not on the test at all. Now I must pay another test fee (plus the "retake" fee) to receive credit. For any future test takers: I am not sure what tip to give. I am now using external resources (now that I know what is on the test) in order to study. Try and find someone who has recently taken the test... I am not sure but hope for the best!
Mathed, I took the test for the first time and got a 194 and I am a non ed major. There are things on the test that can not be found in any prep books I have studied. I felt it was more about the wording of each question and the situational questions. When I took the test there were technical problems. I hired a tutor before retaking the test. How was your timing and was there any specific advice you can offer other than what you stated? Thanks
Help help help!!! I toke my Pro today for the second time. I was very confident this time but still did not passed. So sad. Can anyone help?
Hugs, CCCC. We don't share actual specific test questions on A to Z, on grounds that the test companies monitor these pages and can and do make life difficult for test takers - including revoking passing test scores. With that said, one good study approach is to think of all the ways that a given question could be rephrased. What's the effect of changing the student's age or grade or status? (Often, a lot.) What's the effect of changing the content being taught? (Often, not much.) What's the effect of changing the way in which the instruction or intervention or whatever is being implemented from or to one-on-one to in the classroom to administratively or on the school level to...? (Often, it depends.) Do that with the sample questions you have in hand, then practice making up and varying your own questions. Make sure you're using appropriate technical terminology throughout.
I noticed i was given the same version the second time i took it and failed. I thought they can not gibe you the same test. I also meet someone who had the same version 3 times. Does anyone know can they keep doing this?
For most teacher tests, the version/form/edition of the test that a given test taker is administered is random. If the Professional Practice test (I don't mean its versions, I mean the test as a whole) is either relatively new or taken by relatively few test takers, it's possible that Florida and Pearson simply haven't cooked up very many versions yet, and that would increase the likelihood of getting the same version twice or more.
MathEd- did you pass the test? Can you share what external resources you used to help you pass the test? Thank you in advance!
Can you tell me what workshop you attended? Apparently it wasn't helpful so I want to make sure I don't attend the same one. I was thinking of purchasing the online LL workshop for PEd, but now I'm not so sure...
Caution, mickapoo: not every resource succeeds or fails equally for each comer. The resource that someone else swears at may turn out to be the resource that you swear by, and with no discredit to anyone for whom that resource just doesn't work.
Any suggestions on taking the FTCE Professional Educators exam? I have taken it 2x's and not passed. My first time I missed it by 2 pts. the second time by 8 pts. I have studied using AMX Online study guide, Learning Liaisons, and the Pearson study guide and I'm still missing it. This is the last time I can try due to my certification will be up June 30th. Ugh stressed and looking for any help!
Hugs, Kristie. Does your score report suggest domains (subject areas) tested in which you're not doing so well?
Kristie Try the REA prep book. You realize the wording of the test is common core based. What part of learning liaisons strategy were you using?
What is the REA prep book? As for learning liaisons, I have been reading the answers first then the questions and trying to pick out the key words to help answer the questions.
In the major 4 parts I have been having difficulty in. I think it's the wording of the questions that seems to get me. I also feel that I might be reading into the questions too much or putting too much of my own feelings into it rather then trying to think like the state of Florida wants me to think...ugh...I feel so defeated.
The pet book is by rea. On learning liaisons, i would not look at answer choices first. I would read the questions and look for key words and answers you dont know right away i would put it into the check box
I don;t think I have every hear fo REA prep book. And as for learning liaisons, I have been reading the answers first then the questions, trying to eliminate answers, look for key words to help answer the questions.
Yes, on the third try and the rea book helped , not reading into the question, think like the state and put a load of questions i did not know in the check box and went back to them
I really thought this past time I did well and it turned out I did worse, missing it by 8 points compared to 2 points the first go round.
This was discussed in the.learning liaisons workshop. You can contact Dr. apel. He may give you a access for one momth free.
I compared my scores and the main areas I went down in this past time. I'm studying those areas, I have 4 different study guides and hoping and praying I pass it on the 14th otherwise I have to give up my position. Any ideas how many versions this test might have? Trying to figure out if I'll see more questions I recognize.
Instead of identifying questions that you don't already know, try searching each question for what it contains that you do know: a technical term here, a definition there, a grade level whose attributes you know over there...
I took this exam 7 times, no luck. I don't know what's wrong with me, every time I felt the questions were easy. I thought there is not way for me to fail. my score was 197, and my certification expired. I lost my job. I don't know what I can do now. I have never experience this before in my life. I feel so helpless.
I feel the same way. I will be taking it for my 5th time soon and not sure whether to study, not to study??? In my opinion it's a stupid test. It doesn't define what kind of teacher I am. My reviews from my administrators are great so how can this test tell me that I don't know what I'm doing basically. I have contacted them in Tallahassee and asked about this test and all I received was make sure you're studying make sure you look at the study guide that's available online. I think the best was from one of the head honcho's emails that I acquired and he just basically stated that it's just a scenario test and make sure I'm looking over everything and I will pass. I couldn't even respond back to him it was nothing but BS it was a generic email not addressing my questions. I almost feel like it's a money making game how much money can I make out of you taking these test who is benefiting? Is it Pearson who gives the tests and put out the study guides or is it the Board of Education? It's not right I'm so fed up with this.
Kristie: I understand your feeling. I scheduled my next exam in end of August, and try to review the books, online questions and what else I even don't know. just try my best, I think. I was going to do test verification, but somebody told me it's not worth it. have you done verification? I want to find a study group anybody know is there any study group for this exam? I took learning liaisons class, it doesn't work.
do you think go back to do verification is a good idea? I know I have to pay $75 and wait extra 31 days to do my next exam. but if it's helped I still think worth it, right? I took the exam 7 times and my score are all in 195-197 rage. I think may be I made the same mistake every time. I am so stressed.
I never tried the score verification and funny thing is I was thinking the same thing wanting to see what questions I'm having problems with. I heard it can beworth it but to think of spending another $75.00 on top of the $170.00 just makes me mad and knowing all the hoops you need to go through to challenge the questions it's probably not worth it. I also tried learning liaisons and I didn't get a much out of it. I even tried contacting them numerous times for suggestions/help but no response. I'm thinking of calling my college and see if they have some type of prep class to help with this test. It's financially killing me retaking this test again and again. My score should be released tonight so I'll see where is my area of need, not that that helps much. I can review it and still be low I that concept. I hope to schedule the test again towards the end of August as well. One can only hope and pray we pass this wonder test.
I am waiting for my score as well. I know we will pass it eventually, but it's really pain and wasting of money.
I missed it by 9 points this time...ugh! How did you do? I did get 100% in comp. 6 but low again in 1-4. However, I have been higher in those areas in the past so....I guess I'm not sure how to study or think like they want me to think in those areas.
