Making friends and adding them to our profile must be some new feature Amanda cooked up for us. I'm not sure what it does other than put everyone's beautiful avatar on my profile page to show how popular (or unpopular I am). Hahaha. I think I even accidentally rejected one friend request. If this was you--I didn't mean to.

What's up with this making friends feature? Do you like it? What does it do? I thought we were all friends (pretending to pout).

I guess one good usefulness is to see all my favorite people in one spot and see whose green light is on letting me know they are online. I'm home today while everyone is at work. I already knew that but the grey round lights mocked me and told me I couldn't figure that out for myself. Hehe.

I'm just picking on you guys. Of course I want to be friends. Let's have a group hug! :hugs:

Oops, there is no smilie for group hugs. Even the smilies must be discriminating and pick ONE person to hug. Hahaha. I'm goofy.

Oh my gosh... I spent (wasted) so much time in my life worrying about my popularity (or lack of it). I even was concerned a few years back about my popularity on an internet chat site (practically needed detox to get away from that pull).

I'm not going to worry about it here (I'll sit this one out, thank you).

But looking at one's profile and seeing it say I have no friends... man, that smacks.

What IS the purpose of this, when in school we work on not excluding, forming cliches - but instead ALL being a community?

Popularity - and the pursuit of it - sheeesh.

I like the feature. I think it makes it easier to send PMs to the people I regularly PM since their name is right there. Sometimes it's hard to remember people's names because of all the extra numbers and abbreviations and stuff.

    :)

Now you have a friend, McKenna. ;)

I think it's so you can easily find the people you PM the most often. Sometimes I'll want to PM someone about something, and I can't find them in any of the threads. Then I'll try to look them up in the list of user names, and that takes FOREVER. Now you can just pop over to your list and quickly look them up.

But yeah, it might be seen as leaving people out.

Jem, I figured we were all adults. I'm not at the point of my life where having a list of friends or none on here would make me question my popularity. I was just being funny. I post enough to let people know about my presence whether they want to know me or not. Hahahahaa!

Good attitude Becky..... I remember subbing for a 4th grade class a couple of weeks ago..... and the number one concern was accepting or denying someone as a "friend."....... But I'm sure we "teachers" are above the 4th grade level.....:p:p:p

    We are ....... aren't we??:confused::confused:

    Major.......:hugs:

I see everyone here as a mentor, Major. I also see everyone as a friend.
I certainly hope no one's 'friend' request gets denied!

On another board I go to, someone started a game where you post a compliment about the person above you. I might have even started the game. At any rate, one lady posted after me and said she just couldn't think of anything to say! I know that was done on purpose, and found it immature. Lay me out in a pm if you wish, but don't get all public with your dislike.

Wow Becky. That IS immature. No worries here. I think we're all great friends (most of the time). We try. I love this board. If not, Major will come along and whip us into shape and remind us we aren't 4th graders. Tsk tsk!

I thought it was just a new way to see who is online-instead of those plus things. I didn't realize it was all connected like a facebook or myspace thing which I haven't even been on (gasp!)

    I consider everyone friends, too.

This is one of the new features included in the upgrade I did recently. *I* can't take credit for cooking anything up... I actually think it's kind of repetitive since there is already a 'buddy' list in your profile where you can keep track of contacts. BUT, friends are different because they are mutual. As far as the software is concerned, I think there are some other features that use the friends list for privacy settings. For instance, only people on your 'friends' list can see xyz. The friends list doesn't serve much of a purpose unless those features are enabled and used. This new friends feature was enabled by default. If I'd noticed that before you all started using it, I probably would have hidden it until other features were launched. ;)

I can't keep up with stuff. Here and now, let it be written and let it be known, I am your friend. If I don't respond to your request, please don't imagine I am being mean spirited! I have 6 friends on facebook, because that is how I get to see family photos! I don't know facebook from what, and recently discovered a page with about 75 requests to be a friend, mostly to people I hardly know, remember, or, someone down the street that I talk to every single day! I've been ignoring them all in my ignorance.

But my purpose for facebook is to communicate with my family.

Can I still play here if I don't accept or reject any friends??? I just want to be Plain Jane and come and go without any bruhaha.

Hoot - I did click on "accept" for your friend request and my screen went blank! I will probably catch on after everyone else as usual.

Ha! I've seen t-shirts that say 'Tom is NOT my friend'. (Tom is the founder of MySpace and on everyone's friend list).

I just found a modification that will allow me to do that. Then you all can make t-shirts that say "Amanda is NOT my friend!"

    "Friends"
    Bette Midler
    And I am all alone.
There is no one here beside me.
And my problems have all gone.
There is no one to deride me.

But you got to have friends.
    The feelings oh so strong.
    You got to have friends
To make that day last long.

I had some firends but theyre gone,
Somethin came and took them away.
And from the dusk til the dawn
    Here is where Ill stay.

Standing at the end of the road, boys,
Waiting for my new friends to come.
I dont care if Im hungry or poor,
Im gonna get me some of them.

cause you got to have friends.
Da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, friends.
Thats right you, oh you, yeah you,
I said you gotta have some friends,
Im talkin about friends, thats right, friends.
    Friends, friends, friends.

I had some firends, oh, but theyre all gone, gone,
Someone came and snatched them away.
And from the dusk until the very dawn, you know,
Here is where I gotta stay, here is where I gotta stay.

And Im standing at the end of a real long road
And Im waiting for my new friends to come.
I dont care if Im hungry or freezin cold,
Im gonna get me some of them.

    cause you gotta have friends,
    Thats right, friends, friends.
I gotta me my, I gotta me my, I gotta me my,
Look around and see all of my friends.
Oh, friends, thats right, friends, friends,
    Friends, friends, friends, friends, oh,
Friends, you gotta have friends . . .

    I'm confused.

While trying to figure out this 'Friend' thing, I see my avatar in the friends list of people who have contacted me. Does that mean I don't request them as a friend? Does it automatically go both ways once one person asks another??

Does that make sense at all? Lol- it's been a long day!
