Yes, setting goals and challenges for yourself can be diverting, can bring you joy, and sometimes, can kick your booty so you have to function outside of your worries!

Why not go to the fabric store this weekend and start planning a simple quilting project? The people in the store could help you get you supplies if you don't know what to do. You could start cutting some fabric right away.

Well I do have the material to make a quilt for my daughter. I can start that, but I probably should do my taxes first.

Nope. You have 2 weeks to do the taxes. Do them after Monday's appointment.

You need to find a diversion-- something you'll enjoy and look forward to.

Good! And make it about YOU, not your kids.

I say you plan a virtual trip to Europe, including an itinerary, hotels, restaurants, and sightseeing. Give yourself an unlimited budget and a month, and map out what you would do.

Then when you win the lottery, you'll be all set to book it.

(Hey, these rough days HAVE to be balanced by some extra good Karma down the road, right???)

Told my mother today about the tests. I had to because I have a large bruise on my breast where the lump is. I am not sure why, but it is ugly and blue about the size of a half dollar. My little girl saw it and said something to my mother. She asked how it happened, and I told her about the test. I am not sure how I got the bruise. I also have a large one on my thigh. My mother was calm, but when I called back later she had already called my sister and aunt to tell them. I was hoping to keep this low key, but doesn't look like it is going to happen that way.

All I can say is GOOD LUCK TO YOU, and I mean that.

I'm not sure this is the place for book recommendations or whatever, but there is a book (about the matter) that has come recommended by more than one person I know. Kinda weird that it comes from Suzanne Somers, but again... I've heard good things about it. Maybe go by the public library, or spend an afternoon at Barnes. Here is a link.

Having your family know may not be as bad as you think. Now you can have the support from all those in your life who love and care about you; they can make it a lot easier to deal with. :)

I feel for you. Doctors found a mass in my liver, after going through all the tests and even a biopsy I am having it removed in the next month or two. They believe it's benign (hard to be 100% sure) but think I should take it out before it becomes a problem with future pregnancies.

Family helped a lot through this, my husband helps the most. Let yours help you through this. You're in my thoughts. :)

I KNOW I'm not explaining this well. I think I'm still sorting out the explanation in my own mind.

It's more than trying to take your mind off it... that's pretty much impossible.

It's a matter of looking beyond all the horrible stuff, to a return to normalcy at the other side. Knowing that you can get through whatever you have to, because it's all going to be short term. And when all that's over, your life will go back to the sane life you enjoyed before you found the lump.

So I planned trips. I was counting on being well enough to actually take them. (And we did-- and had a blast!!!) It's that emphasis on a nice normal future that was so very important to me.

So work on the quilt, and know-- really KNOW-- that you'll be well enough to spend lots of time in the upcoming months working on it.

I bought a number of sports bras-- I had no choice for almost a year. But I remember with great fondness the day last summer when I went to a lingerie store, got measured for a real bra, and went out and brought some new bras and T shirts to wear with them. It was something so very normal, and I'll never forget how wonderful it made me feel.

LIkewise, I've cherished each and every day this year when I DIDN'T have to wear a blazer to school.

took my daughter to the philharmonica today. I decided that I needed to plan events in the next month that builds memories for my kids. So this weekend the movies...next week?? Maybe roller skating with my kids...then a trip to the hospital to set my broken arm. I am not sporty! I want them to have memories...not just because of the lump.

mrachelle, know that I'm praying for you and thinking of you. Last summer I felt a lump and finally had it checked out a few months later. (I was also dealing with another frightening symptom that I'd rather not post here.) The lump, thankfully, turned out to be a fibroadenoma, which are benign. I had it surgically removed a couple of months ago. It was, by far, the most frightening time of my life, especially since I'm only in my late twenties.

I did tell my mom and my MIL, but after my MIL dismissed what I told her by saying, "Oh, it's just some silly little cyst that will go away on it's own. You're fine." I decided not to tell anyone else in my family. (What hurt me most about what she said is that if it were my either of my sisters-in-law or her going through this, it'd be something serious and we would all need to be there in support of them, making a huge fuss over them. For me, though, she just dismissed it like it was an everyday common cold.) Since I had to miss school-- mostly half-days-- I did tell some of my co-workers. They were my rock during that time. I didn't tell other people-- friends and other family members-- until after the surgery.

All the best to you. I don't know how much I can share, or what I can do, but feel free to PM me if you want to talk.

Today is the day. I sent my kids to my mother. I sent my husband to work. And I am sitting here wondering if I can force myself to drive to the doctor. My teenager was mad at me last night and told me he was tired of me being in a bad mood. I wanted to shake him and say can't you see I am scared. But instead I went to my bedroom and cried. My husband discussed it with him. I realize that no matter the outcome today, I don't want my kids remembering me in a bad mood. When my kids were small I keep a gratitude journal. I am going shopping after the doctors visits to buy me a new one.

The first appointment is at 10 Oklahoma time. The second is at 3. I would appreciate a prayer for strength. I dont believe in asking God to do what I want, just what His will is and helping me deal with it. I will share as soon as I know anything.

    update--dr visit

The specialist didn't order the mammagram--even though I was assured that we would be doing it today. But they did do an exam, and we did labs. The blood and urine didn't show anything, but even the doctor detected a lump during the exam. She went ahead and did a pap smear---I hate those things! And she called in the order for the mammagram. It will be a few days before they get it set up...so more waiting.
    Good news---labs good
bad news---she found a spot on both breasts that concerned her. I didn't feel the one on the right.
    worse news---more waiting
Better news---I am still alive! So it could be worse.

thanks to everyone. A friend lost her husband on Sunday. He was only 49. They thought he had the flu and he died in the car when she was taking him to the hospital. It was an viral infection. So, no matter what...my life is better than his and hers. I am finding out what is wrong and I am going to fight it. I am not going to let this defeat me. I will not back down. I deserve to watch my son graduate. I deserve to help my daughter plan her wedding. I have a future and it is time for me to plan for it.

mrachelle87, I posted before on page 1, but I want to say good for you for the strong & optimistic attitude!

Not that anything bad will happen, but that's great that you want to make more memories for your kids/family & do more things w/ them. Can you plan a nice trip this summer? Something that they'll never forget & have the camera & videocamera ready to go, so they can look back on those special times.

On another note, my parents are quite a bit older than most parents of people my age & I can really see how they're getting older. Not so long ago, I suggested they have photos taken. Last photos I have of them was about 15 yrs ago. I'm talking photos taken at a photo studio.

Can you as a whole family have pics taken soon too?
