So, two days after I accepted the position in MN, the people from the job I wanted even more called to offer me a position. This is a MUCH better job. It's more money, with better benefits, in an area with a lower cost of living, near a better university...oh, and the hours are better. So, I was all bummed because I'd already accepted the other position, so I told them that, but told them I'd take their offer over the other one, so go ahead and do the background check. Well, I just heard a few minutes ago....I GOT THE JOB!!!!!! The funny thing is that it's the same start date, so I don't have to change my schedule at all. I do; however, have to start all over again with house hunting. I can deal with that.
When it... rains?? Where mm's going, I think it's more along the lines of "When it snows, it blizzards..." Seriously: mm, I'm thrilled for you.
Thanks everybody!!!!! I was getting a little depressed. I've been in GA for 7 months and couldn't find anything but waitressing. Not that I'm knocking the restaraunt industry. It's honest money, and any job in this economy is a good thing, but it's really not what I want to be doing long term. I had one potential job going, but it was waiting on a whole department to be created. That's what gave me the guts to expand my job search. I really didn't start in earnest until the weekend before Christmas, and now a month later I have two job offers. SWEET!!!!
It's with a major bank. In the interest of keeping it un-googleable, I'll just say it's a bank that was formerly just in the west/midwest, but just bought out a nationwide bank. It's adminisrative/tech support for the branch employees. They offer a HUGE tuition reimbursement benefit that covers graduate school (not just undergrad, as some places do). The medical benefits are fantastic, as well as retirement benefits. NDSU has a respectable math program, and the hours work well to combine full time work and graduate school. There were a ton of other benefits, but I'm so overwhelmed right now, that half of it just flitted right out of my brain.
Blue...yeah...cold is the one thing I'm thinking the most about. I've lived in Miami for the overwhelming majority of my life. This will definitely be different.
That's too awesome! Seems like only yesterday we were meeting for the first time buffalo wild wings...
MM... Sorry. I haven't been following ANYTHING that much recently. The new job that you are moving for is a banking job? not teaching? I want to congratulate you! i know you wanted to move desparately...and that this was the area you were looking towards. Best wishes to you and your kids.
It rained in Fargo last night. Right now it's snowing HUGE snowflakes. Ah, I miss Fargo. You have no idea how happy it makes me that you're headed up there. You'll absolutely love it. It's a great city!
I applied for both teaching and non-teaching positions. Frankly, I really want to be in a position to do what I was doing for the college in Miami on a full time basis in a university setting. To do that, I really need a Ph.D. This banking job will allow me to get that degree.
My wife will be retiring soon, and wants to move back to her home town in Western NoDak after she retires this year or next. I'll start looking for an English position up there this summer. The money here in Wyoming is fantastic, and the kids at my school have been wonderful, but this complete and total immersion into standards based education is about to drive me crazy.
Thanks, Becky!!! This is something I really want, and the bank has a very generous tuition reimbursement program tha pays for graduate school as well. That was one of the biggest reasons I wanted this particular position.
So....this is your last weekend as a Southern Belle!!! Sometime today, hit the store and get that ice/snow scraper for your car... the one with the long handle. You may very well need it for the drive! And put aside some blankets for the kids to use in the car. Sleepy kids sleep so much better in the car under a blanket.
Wed is the planned auto parts store day. I need to change the oil and get new wipers. I think the timing is great. I went to the grocery store yesterday and noticed one of the wipers starting to peel away from the metal. I need to get ones more appropriate for snow, so I'm glad that I don't have to replace perfectly good ones. Anyway, I was hoping to find a decent scraper there, but since I'm so far south, maybe not. I might wind up having to get something less than ideal and get a better one after I get to Fargo. I was planning on keeping the blankets and pillows up front .
One finds windshield scrapers at truck stops in the darndest places and seasons... and the weather you've been reporting from Atlanta And Thereabouts makes the current season not even remotely implausible.
You should order this mm. These work the best. My dh made a bunch in college for his final plastics project (just don't tell the copyright department!)
That wouldn't help me much. I'm 5'4" and I drive a minivan. That wouldn't help me get the snow off the top of the car. (MM: the reason it needs to get off the top is because, othewise, it's liable to come off in one big sheet as I'm driving. The guy behind me would be blinded with snow for a good few seconds until he got his wipers on.)
We just bought four of these! A lady was selling them at the Air Force Base. She had a video running of how well they work. They do an amazing job on ice! Please remember to have your anti-freeze checked. I'm not sure what temperature you should have it safe at for Fargo - maybe forty or fifty below zero.
