This week we had picture day. The company set up in the gum and each student posed in front a of a woodland scene.
Later that day, teachers received proofs to send home with the students so they could decide whether or not to buy the photographs. One little boy looked at his picture and with a puzzled expression said, "I don't even remember going into a forest"

It made me smile. What little comments have you heard this week?

"You're a mother?"--this from one of my Grade 8 boys. I talk about my kids all the time (I guess I sound like Charlie Brown's teacher to him).

I was giving a spelling assessment a few weeks ago. One of the words was "human". I used it in a sentence "We are all human." One little boy (1st grade) spoke up and said, " I'm half human, half Indian". I cracked up on the inside, but then asked him which of his parents was the human and which was the Indian, he said he wasn't sure.

We are dissecting and I have gotten the question: "Is it dead" or better yet "will this hurt it?"

This isn't something a student said but wrote. Instead of "even though", I had a student write "even no". That was too cute!

I taught a science lesson plan last week to second graders. We were discussing how plants were living things...one of my group members posed the question 'Ok so plants are living, but what else do you think is living?' The first answer to be said?
    'Barbecue sauce'
 So my very nice group member asked 'Well, why do you think barbecue sauce is living?'
'Because it comes in a bottle and walks around'
What kind of barbecue sauce does this kid eat! :p

I had a great comment today from a student AND his parent. Student was AWFUL at the beginning of the year. Very unmotivated and disrespectful. I put him in my after-school program and he's just done so well throughout the year. Today he wrote me a letter about how he was sorry for being so bad all year and that he's trying harder because of me. :******)

I was so happy I called his Dad who immediately answered with "OH GOD, WHAT NOW? I'M SO SORRY." I told him for once I was making a GOOD call home to say Student has improved greatly on attendance, homework, and class behavior. He was like "...............................Really?....But this never happens...."

We have a "take-home" folder that we call our HORSE (thanks to someone on here w/ a great website and the willingness to share!) - Happy Organized Responsible Students Everyday - and a student came back yesterday after the weekend and started to tell me that she had lost her HORSE, but she caught herself right away and changed to...
    My HORSE ran away!!
