Another thread got me thinking about is. I am in need of a new workout routine for this Fall. I like to work out before school and usually do about 30 minutes worth of something... The question is WHAT will that something be??? Any fun ideas? (even if you have a good workout DVD that you use, I would love to hear it!)
I third Jillian Michaels! A lot of her workout dvds are 20 or 30 minute workouts and you'll start seeing results quickly if you stick to her workouts.
I have an elliptical machine. I can see the tv while I use it. I used to watch tivo'd episodes of Oprah, but since her show is gone, I'm not sure what I will watch this year ... maybe tivo'd Conans. I sometimes listen to BBC radio instead of watch tv. That means I still have NPR to listen to during my shower and my drive to school.
We got a treadmill so we can watch the news while we work out. We hope to get an elliptical, too, if it turns out our ceiling isn't too low in our basement.
I've been using a video called Weight Loss Cardio Kick. It has a couple of half-hour workouts on it, and they really get me sweating! I figure that I'll get up early twice a week and do the video before school, and then do it once on the weekend so I'm at least getting exercise 3 times per week.
If you have a Wii...I use Wii Fit Plus. It has a feature on it where you can customize your own routine. The exercises are yoga and strength training things like jackknives, leg twists, etc. I have mine set at about 25 minutes. I have also used the EA Active for Wii. I LOVE LOVE LOVE working out before school...it helps me be more focused during the day!
I'm a big fan of yoga. If you do it right, it's cardio and strength all in one, with a little bit of relaxation and focus thrown in.
I'll go with the Jillian Michaels kick! 30 Day Shred is 20 minutes long and hard enough to get your blood pumping. I burn the same amount of calories in those 20 minutes as I do in an hour long walk!
The Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred videos are a really good workout. If you have netflix they have some fitness dvds on there too!
My big lab is my exercise routine! I have to take her out for her 20 minute walk in the morning before I leave and another 30-40 minute walk in the evening. Now if I could just lay off the ice cream, I might actually lose some weight! LOL
I do Jari Love's Ripped and Chiseled in the mornings 2-3x per week. It takes an hour but you can also select individual segments if you have less time. Also love a brisk walk, and yoga stretches, although I save the full yoga workout for after work.
Yes! If possible. The perfect built-in workout (as long as u live close enough to school). I ride three times a week.
I work out on my treadmill. I am currently doing 2 miles of incline walk/jog per morning-- not too intense (for me) but a nice little sweat session that can be done ~30 minutes. Gets me going for the day!
I just added a bunch of videos to my Netflix instant queue. I'm going to try them out and then hopefully I'll like some of them enough to keep it going once school starts. I have a summer membership to the Y but due to the high cost ($122/month for a family, it was $400 for the summer) I will probably not do a regular membership. But I've finally started getting back into shape so I do want to continue working out.
I sleep next to my treadmill in hopes of rolling out of bed and on to it--it hasn't worked yet for an every day habit during the school year, but I'm still hoping it might this year. There's always room for hope.
about three times a week I will go to the gym before school. I usually do 20 min or so on a treadmill, elliptical machine, or bike, and then about 15 min of circuit weight machines or free weights. If I don't feel like going to the gym I'll follow an exercise video on my computer that I watch off of Netflix. The great thing about that is I don't have to BUY the DVD, and I can switch up which one I want to do!! LOVE using the nextflix watch nows for that, and there's TONS of choices from cardio, to toning, to yoga.
There is a great series of DVD's are the 10 minutes series. You can choose to do 10 minutes or an hour. As a former fitness instructor, I really like the girl who teaches Kickboxing. I also have the P90X and TurboFire-both of which I really like. P90X workouts are usually an hour (although the Yoga X is 90 minutes) and very intense. Turbofire is varied, with a few workouts as little as 15 minutes (but Extremely intense 15 minutes).
I just bought a wii and wii fit plus and some other games used on craigslist yesterday. I have used wii fit at my parents house and it really got me motivated. Im setting mine up in a few minutes. Excited! I will probably do my workout after school...I like to shower at night so I don't rush in the mornings.
I love the Wii!! My favorite way to do cardio is Just Dance. So WHEN I get a teaching job, I will probably do about 30 mins of Just Dance before school, and then about 25-30 mins of a Wii Fit routine before bed.
Check out The Firm. I especially like the Transfirmer series (great results). The Firm Express is the newest program... it's perfect if you're pressed for time. I just got it recently.
