Does anyone use Harcourt Trophies for their Language Arts Focus Wall? My school is participating in NCReads this year (a tittle one reading program), and one of the things they highly encourage is a focus wall! They sound like a great idea, but has anyone ever done one with the trophies series in fifth grade?

We use Harcourt Trophies as our basal. But I am not quite sure what a Focus Wall is.

A focus wall is a bulletin board that lists the books your reading, the auther, the spelling words, what your phonics unit is, etc and you change it for every unit. This way your students can see it, and you can review it every day so that they know what their are studying and you don't have to listen to "what are we doing/reading". Santa-Barbara in CA does them

I use Trophies and have always just posted the spelling words and vocab words. Sometimes I make BBs from what we are reading.

I used to do focus walls. Here is a picture of the basic set-up. I would put the vocab and spelling words in the blue pocket chart. http://www.msjensenclass.com/ClassPictures/Pictures/IM001950.jpg

And I would write down the other stuff on sentence strips (focus skill & strategy, author name, title of book, etc).

I stopped doing it last year......but I may start it again this year.
