    Hi Everyone!
I have a MLS and am returning to get my teaching certificate. After reading these forums it seems that prinicpals are looking for library/media candidates with teaching experience. Does volunteering as a reading tutor or teacher's assistant qualify at all? For those of you who recently got hired, what do you think helped you the most in getting hired?

I think that they count as experience...but maybe not teaching experience. Not all principals want media specialists with teaching experience. However, most media specialists are hired because they worked for the district. I know all our district media specialists were once teachers in the district.

In my district media specialists were once teachers and vice versa.
