I haven't seen too much flu at my school yet, but EVERYONE has been sick at one point or another. You know what has been going around, though? Whooping cough. It's been pretty bad.

Here it's the stomach flu...cramps, headaches, vomiting...a 24 hour bug that seems to be very contagious.

There was a stomach bug going around my classroom back in September. I think 5 or 6 (of my 11) students got it. Luckily, I didn't catch it and it didn't last very long. Now there has just been lots and lots of coughing. I also go through about 3 or 4 boxes of tissues in a week.

I got to work this morning and my next door teacher had to leave because she was so sick. I got her kids for the day...so it was long, hard day! I hope she's back for our room parties on Friday.

We had whooping cough at our school a few weeks ago. It was pretty bad for the person that had it. Not much in the way of flu yet.

We've had 3 students with it so far. The first was a fifth grader. He was coughing HORRIBLY so mom brought him to the hospital. According to her they had to run tests, but weren't sure what it was since whooping cough is not all the common anymore. While they were waiting for test results (a few days) he was in school. During that time it spread to two other students. We're hoping that no one else ends up with it since we've been told that it's very contagious.

We have kids out with a variety of ailments...there is a nasty stomach viras going around, as well as bad coughs and colds. One of our kindergarten teachers had 8 kids in her class the other day (out of 20!). We don't really have to worry about whooping cough, though, because the whooping cough vaccine is part of the required immunizations.

We haven't had any whooping cough. Isn't that vaccine required everywhere or is it just in some parts of the country...and Canada???

We had our worst round of illness start two weeks ago. Week before last I had horrible attendance. Some had strep, some had a horrible cough, and some had a stomach bug. Early the next week it started hitting other schools in the district, and they closed us down three days last week. We had four confirmed cases of flu.

According to my state DOE, it is a required vaccination.

Nothing (knock on wood) yet. I have one daycare girl who has a bad cough, but it's a little quirky virus, nothing too extreme (not croup or anything). I had all my kids help me wash and disinfect all the toys and stuff in the house the other day.

I hope the teacher next door to me is back tomorrow(has been out for 2 days due to the stomach flu.) I've had her class with mine for those 2 days and have been trying to get her lesson plans done for her, which includes gifts made for parents...plus tomorrow we have our Christmas parties!

Word has it that 2 school systems in our state had to close down before the holidays hit because of so much illness. We've had a lot of pnemonia going around (1 in our class) for the last several weeks. One kid (small school) ended up in the hospital for it.

I got the shot. The only disease in my room is 'affluenza'- students out of school early on vacation because they had tickets to tropical islands, Florida and Europe......

Yes it is required in our state but this person still got it. She was in the hospital for over 2 weeks and was in isolation. It was really horrible. She was out from Thanksgiving till the holiday break. Hopefully she will return after the break.

We've had a cough/fever thing going around. In November we had an outbreak of chicken pox . I think around 10 - 15 total. We were surprised as all but one had been vaccinated but I just saw a report about another school in Mass. that also had an outbreak. I guess the vaccine is not as successful as first thought.

I don't plan on getting the flu shot. I've never had the flu before :) I guess the day my luck changes is the day I'll get the shot :p

Doesn't it only protect against certain strains, though, and you can still get other flus?

I'm pretty sure. I think it protects against the ones that are most common, but you could still come in contact with another strain of the virus.

No flu, but I do have bronchitis (sp). I've had a cold for about a month now. But two weeks ago it became so severe that on the 16th I finally went to the ER. Everyone at my work was sick, kids and adults. The same was true with the schools I've subbed at.

My one student had to 'dis-enroll' because he will be gone more than 10 consecutive days. When he comes back his parents will have to re-register him and he will end up back in my room.

We've had a round of strep throat, a round of stomach virus, and a round of crud (fever, coughing). I didn't get strep but I did get the stomach virus and the crud which turned into a sinus infection and bronchitus. Yuk!
