So it looks like I may have the flu for the first time in 15 years (somehow my entire teaching career I’ve managed to avoid it up until now).:mask: Any suggestions on how to care for myself? Do I go to the doctor or just rest at home? I haven’t gone to the doctor for anything other than a checkup in years and I don’t know if my general doctor will even be available in the next few days. :persevere:

You need to get to the doctor before it worsens! You can get something to help you. Influenza A lasts 5 days.

I got to the doctor within 24 hours of getting sick, and I was given Tamiflu. It was my only time ever having the flu, so I have no idea if it helped. I know that I was miserable for three days, and then got worse and the fourth day. Ended up back at doctor with pneumonia.

Rest and fluids are your best bet. Treat symptoms.

Oh no!! We’re you able to get better quickly after that? I’m so scared about getting really sick and missing work.

I would go to the doctor. In my case I would need a doctor's note if I was out sick after 3 days anyway so I would go as soon as possible.

The sooner you can get to the doctor, the better. I think that meds like Tamiflu are much more effective earlier on. They may not even be given at all after a certain period of time.

Well I don’t have the flu (thank goodness), but I still have to take off tomorrow as my coughing is still bad and I’m contagious. My chills and fever have gone away which is what made me think I was getting or had the flu.

I got sick on a Friday at work, and I was out the whole next week.

Glad you are feeling better. The flu was awful,

Apparently the flu is pretty nasty this year. More so than usual.

So what I have is apparently not the flu, but it’s nasty, painful and debilitating. I can barely get out of bed. Hopefully it passes soon.
