I finally got my first full-time teaching job and I am so excited! BUT as of right now I only know that I am *probably* teaching 5th grade science, don't know the curriculum, have not seen my classroom, know nothing about my students...the list goes on. I was only hired this past week and I start Tuesday!! Luckily students don't start until next week, so I still have time to prepare.

Anyway, my point is: does anyone have any helpful hints? I have worked as a sub for a year and a half, and have also done my student teaching so I'm not too worried about working with students. Just looking for some advice.

    Thank you everyone!! :)

Welcome and congrats on the job!

As soon as you can, get a copy of the curriculum so that you can get to know the content that you are teaching. Hopefully they will tell you tomorrow!

    Good luck!

Congrats on the job! I wouldn't worry about curriculum until you are absolutely sure about what you'll be teaching. I would spend my time getting my ducks in a row so that I could dedicate the majority of my time to school when you start orientation.
    Freeze meals
Clean out your closet and put together outfits for the first two weeks
Pay bills and set up autopay.
Prepare a teacher organizer (I have details of mine on my blog)
    Think about procedures and routines.
Write a letter telling about yourself to the families.

    Good luck!

Congrats on the job! I'm a new teacher too and soooo excited. If you're fairly sure you'll be doing 5th grade science I reccomend looking up your state standards so you can get an idea of what you'll be teaching.
