What are some good lessons for the first day/week of school to really capture the students and get them excited? I plan to do a fun science lesson/experiment. I also would like to do some type of fun writing project. A fun interactive math review lesson could be neat as well. I am hoping to get some cool work produced and get it up on the bulletin boards asap.

I wouldn't be so focused on "fun." The first week is a great time to set your expectations, teach procedures and rules, and set the tone for the year. Of course you can incorporate fun into the picture, but remember you only get one chance to start the year off right. :)

I understand starting off right. I intend to teach my procedures and routines very specifically. I will make sure it is right. Although I know there will need to be some form of academics. I'm just looking for some lesson ideas for the first week so I'm prepared.
