I have a teaching interview Monday afternoon at 3 in my hometown....an hour away. I emailed the AP this afternoon and she just called to ask me to come down. They have 5 positions, 3rd ELA, 3rd self-contained, 4th grade math (2 positions), and 6th grade SS (this is the one I really want!)...but I'd be happy with all of them but self-contained. We'll see what Monday brings!
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! STG-I saw this post, and my heart stopped! I am SO HAPPY for you!! It is FANTASTIC that they have so many openings. Even if you took one that wasn't your first choice, you're IN and you can shuffle around next year!!! Monday can't come fast enough. Keep us posted! (yeah, like you wouldn't.... )
 Jem! It's not my first choice..because its so far, but its something!! And if nothing else good practice. It's just nice to get noticed and called.
Like I said, I've been lurking...I saw this post and got so excited!!! I know an hour might not be the best situation, but it's something!! Just concentrate on the interview right now and worry about the drive when you get offered the position. (and you will) What is your certification? Congrats and Good Luck!!!!
I really wouldn't mind getting offered any of the positions they have....its the drive. But I'll go in with an open mind and see whatever comes of it. Thanks guys for the support!
STG--The drive might not be as bad as you think. I took a job an hour away my 2nd year teaching and actually got to enjoy the drive. Right now I am about 30 minutes from my house and it is not bad. Good luck--I am still in Disney World but when I get home Monday, I hope to hear that things went great.
Good luck, sending good vibes. study study study, and get some good rest too this weekend!!! Let us know how it goes!
It's about time! And wow, that's so many positions, they're nuts not to offer you one (or your choice!!)! I can tell that hour drive is not floating your boat. Do you really hate to drive?
The drive probably won't be so bad. It's all country roads so no real traffic...especially that early in the morning.
Shelly~I actually like driving. It's just I think it would get old after awhile. And not being close to my daughter's school for her first year is also weighting on my mind. chem~hope your enjoying your vacation!
Ah, for some reason (???) I did not know you have a daughter and she's starting school. That would be hard. My kids go to school where I teach (because I teach there, not their neighborhood school) so a drive would not be as big of a deal. It would be very hard, though, with a kid in a district an hour away (and probably with different early-release day, breaks, etc.) That is a bummer.
WOW! Told you it would happen. The waiting is the hardest part!!!! What great experience this would give you! Think about all the great advice you have given and relax. You have this one!
OK, I'm giving you the same pep talk I gave a neighbor yesterday: This job is yours to go and take. Do your homework, know what they're all about and what they expect from a teacher. Dress your professional best. Go in there and convince them what we already know: that you're the best teacher for the job.
Shelly~my dad and I thought that maybe dd could go to school there if I get the job. That's one of the questions I'm going to ask.
My daughter's went to school with me and it was the best move that I ever made. I LOVED seeing them during the school day. We did not live in the same district but it all worked out so well. Do ask!
