I am thinking about restructuring my schedule having a separate word study block followed by writing workshop in the morning.

I plan on introducing word families as well as
CVC, CV, CVCe, long vowel patterns, r controlled vowels etc.

I can have the kids record word hunts and make sorts in their notebooks.

What else do you have the kids do in the word study notebooks? I'm new to this and would love any suggestions or tips!

If you aren't already familiar with Carl's Corner, you will have a blast. http://www.carlscorner.us.com/

You can find all kinds of phonics and word study activities already premade and ready to print and use at this site.

    :)

    Rainstorm,

I actually love carlscorner! I probably get on there and surf around once a week. There is always something new that I have passed by. :)

I guess that I already have spiral notebooks cut in half. I was looking for activities that my students could just write down and copy into their notebooks. I might print out some sorting items from carlscorner for them to glue into the notebook but our school is trying to cut down on paper copying so I was also looking for things just to write into their notebooks.

I'm going to go hunt again at carlscorner!
