I'm back today too. It's going fairly smoothly. There are some talkative types in my fourth period, but they will be sorted by tomorrow. (My last year's fourth period class was friggin amazing. I miss them.) In a way I almost feel like I never left over the summer, and this is just another work day.
I think now that more have started today, MOST have started back by now. In my area, it was mostly Aug 6th. Since I don't have to work this school school year (well, commuting to any job, that is), I'm going to try to go to an amusement park or two now that it won't be overcrowded by all the school kids! Hope everyone has a great 1st day!
I started today! This is my first full time teaching job, so it was super exciting. Plus, I ended up in a classroom sped position, so even though I'll be coteaching with another sped teacher, I feel like I have my own classroom (if that makes any sense).
Yes! Kids were quiet and obedient. Some uniform issues, however. Having issues with my team. They went to Dunkin' Donuts without me. I raised the issue during our after-school meeting and one got all huffy.
You had an after school meeting on the first day of school??? Oh, hells naw!!! You're a good one for even going.
No kids yet....I'm nervous! I also feel like I have just bucketloads to do...augh. New employee stuff...paperwork to get paid, there was confusion about whether or not I am eligible for health insurance (part-time but I am eligible, gah) so I still have to do that paperwork, emergency contact stuff, online trainings, and new state rule, all new hires have to get fingerprinted ! Argh and I'm supposed to have that done by the 30th..no way that's happening. It seems it's a long wait for an opening... It was funny during the building meeting today the principal brought that up and the fact that the deadline is the 30th for new teachers (everyone has to get it done eventually though) and I made a very obvious "oh ****" noise, he looked right at me and was like "well luckily the superintendent extended the deadline..." and someone asked "till when?" and he said "till whenever you get it done!"
The chatty group is now completely silent and cooperative with the rules. All it took was a kid to be sent to the focus desk on the second day, and a nice chat with a student I had last year who was expecting my science class to be like my elective. (I'm way more laid back in my elective.)
Well done peregrin! what is the focus desk? I had a dream about sending a kid to time out ha! Today is the kids' first day but I don't teach any classes on Wednesdays...
Friday will make two full weeks for us. Pretty smooth but we have LOTS of special needs children coming into our very small schools. New ground for many of us. Good luck to all of you just beginning. The heat finally abated here in N Fla. 67 this morning and supposed to be 66 tomorrow for the low.
