Its close to midnight and I have known gone to bed yet... laid out my clothes or packed a lunch! Not sure what I am thinking, lol! I'm nervously excited as well. Open house went great I met all of my parents except for 2 who did not show up. Transferring to a new school I did forget how much work a traditional classroom can be. Coming from a Montessori environment we are minimalist and believe in the beauty of the work and not the quantity of pictures, posters, bright colors posted throughout the classroom. This school is also much larger... I'm coming from a small school of 300 students to a school of 830! I'm looking forward to it.. but I am super nervous!
As a mom, here's what I always hoped for from my kid's first day of Kindergarten: 1. That my child is on the right bus at the end of the day. That one was HUGE. 2. That my child had someone to sit with at lunch. 3. That my child was able to get to the bathroom when needed. 4. If at all possible, that my child arrived home with a smile on his/her face. If you can accomplish all that for each of your students, your first day will have been a huge success. There's time for everything else as you can get to it. Have a great day today!
Have a great first day! My goal for the first day of grade 1 is to make sure everyone wants to come back the next day.
Thanks! I think I accomplished that today. We did a circle graph and I asked what they enjoyed about their first day. I only had 1 student say I don't know. I did a lot with the smart board today and everyone loved that. I even got answers about enjoying walking in the hallway, that I said nice things to them and they enjoyed the story. Everyone got home safely was a huge bonus. I'm looking forward to a great school year but I am super exhausted.
Mz. Moore, I am always super exhausted on the first day of school. As a matter of fact, we have been in school for two weeks now and I am just beginning to get comfortable.
Needless to say DHE I was so excited last night that I didn't finally fall asleep until around 230am!!
You know the nightmare when the alarm doesn't go off on the first day?? Peter fell asleep early last night, so I set my alarm in the dark. I woke up in the middle of the night to see that the clock on the TV sadi 3:45 and the alarm clock still said 9:52. So I dozed and woke up every half hour. And got out of bed right on time at 5 am. It wouldn't have been a crisis had I slept until Peter's alarm went off, but it would have thrown off our routine. And so begins year #28.
