    Finally my settlement
As some of you know I fell at a hotel about a year ago and became disabled.
I finally settled. I am due to get the money anytime in the next couple days.
I will be able to pay off my credit cards and some loans I have had to take out to "Live" it has been stressful.
All i can do is thank God I can now pay my bills
I have such a feeling of relief

I'm so sorry this happened. I, too know how it feels to have something physcially happen that took a few seconds, but the result will last the rest of your life. But my situation happened at home, so I don't get any settlement.

I hope you got the amt that's of satisfaction to you!

Aw, Dave. I'm glad it's worked out.

I have the TV on all day while I work, and so I constatly have the J.D. Wentworth ad running through my head....

'I have a structered settlement but I need cash now! 877 Cash Now! 877 Cash Now!'

    Those opera singers are catchy!!

"It's My Money and I Want It NOW!" is that the commercial? Almost as annoying as Sham WOW! Hahaha!

Dave, you sound 100% more relaxed and that is going to be good for your health, too. Sorry to hear you were injured at a hotel. Supposed to be a relaxing place, but no.

I'm glad for you, Dave! I was in an car accident years ago & had to wait for a settlement then (meanwhile being harassed by bill collectors for the medical bills I had incurred)...so I can imagine the stress you've been going through...and the relief you feel now. Isn't it a great feeling?!
By the way- how did you fall (if you don't mind my asking)?

There was a temporary ramp for the housekeeping cart on the stairs and I tried to step around it but it had some kind of stuff on it like sand and when I stepped on it to keep my balance it was like stepping on ball bearings and down I went, hyper-flexing my knee ripping all the tendons in it.

Good for you! I'm glad that you can move on and take care of your financial situation.

I am just starting the whole headache after my wreck in February--which was not my fault. The bills are coming in and I have to send them to "the other" insurance company. The other party did not carry enough coverage to cover all the bills, which means our insurance will have to pick up the rest. We are waiting to see what kind of settlement the other party's insurance company is going to offer for my pain and suffering. To be honest--I do not expect much. In the meantime, the other party is off and having a good time, with no paperwork or headaches 9or neckaches!)

Enjoy your settlement!!! I would!!!

Been there; we know the exact feeling! Living off your credit cards so as not to be a burden to anyone while waiting for your settlement to come in...then paying off the "destruction" that those credit cards and incoming bills have cause. I AM SO HAPPY for you, Dave!

Ouch! I ruptured my Achilles tendon in Jan of '08. I just made a strange jump on the stairs in my own home. I had surgery, but it couldn't be fixed at the time. I was set to have a 2nd, but it never happened due to certain circumstances. I guess I walk pretty good for someone who's Achilles tendon was never fixed. I have a permanent handicap placard because of it. :( I can't wear cute, sexy high heel shoes anymore. Maybe I'll try to wear a wedge which is more stable that's 2-3 inches, but I'd be so afraid of how I walk & fearing that I'll hurt my ankle again.

I got the check today:D BUT my bank (BofA) would not credit the whole check (only $100 of it) to my account for 10 days! I have been using the bank for over 20 years.:banghead:
So I went to the Chase (where the Check was drawn on) and was able to cash it (for $5) after showing 2 IDs, giving blood, promising my first born, etc.
I then drove the 5 blocks, with more cash in my pocket than I ever have had before, back to my bank.
My bank then copied my IDs! why I don't know? I was making a deposit! I felt like I was John Dillinger, no Pretty Boy Floyd (I am so good looking).
When I asked why they took a copy of my IDs the first teller said she was not allowed not tell me!
I then asked the head teller and she said it was policy!
I ask if I was depositing $100 they would copy my ID? She said "yes."
I have deposited over $3000 at a time and never have I had to even show my ID.
I then said "no wonder I use the ATM more now a days."

Could it be a new post-Madoff policy? It makes large or frequent cash deposits more traceable??

That's one of those life altering events you'd probably rather done without, even a cash settlement, which I'm ecstatic for you, won't make the knee feel better when the weather changes.

Did you retire early because of the accident too?

You better watch these banks these days, a teller might think they didn't get a big enough BONUS!!!

Once again, I'm so glad things have settled for you.

    Or Drug money etc.

Also we have 2 BofA branches in town......
I went to one at first with the check, this branch is where they know me by name (since I am a character, I sing in line to the Muzak, I tell jokes, I flirt with the tellers) but since the Chase is closer to the other BofA branch I went to the second branch with the cash (only one person knows me there, she is from the other branch)

I know we need to be protect from the Madoffs and the Drug Dealers but I am me, a teacher, the only drugs I deal with I get from Wal*mart, and the only stock I have is the wood part of my guns (divorces will hurt your chances to have the money to buy stock)

Well the money is in my account now and my creditors are being paid so the economy is safe!

in my state we have the 80 point rule (Age plus years of service)
this made my principal mad (he could not understand Double dipping yet he as a retired Marine was Double dipping himself)

but back to your question Yes I finally retired because of the accident.

Back to the deposit. According to all the Law and Orders that I watch, any large deposit is reported to the federal government. So watch out.

When I worked as a bank teller, we had to complete special forms whenever a customer requested a cash transaction (deposit, withdrawal, payment, or check cashing) of $10,000 or more. Silly of the teller to say she "couldn't tell you" why she required your ID. We'd always tell our customers that the procedure was required by the federal government. It's been many, MANY years since I worked as a teller, but I believe the regulation still applies.
