It's a maternity leave replacement, but it seems that there will be opportunities to be hired for the following year as well. Woo hoo!

Question - Do I send thank you letters/notes (like a card?) even though they offered me the job the day of the interview? Because I've always associated a thank you letter as a follow up in order to keep you in the running after an interview... But I've already got the job. What is the proper etiquette? Card with a handwritten message? Letter that is typed?

I still have to fill out an application though. I want to finish the essay portion of it tonight.

Should I do a letter or a card? I bought blank thank you cards today (they say thank you on the front cover). They're the little index card sized ones.

Oh and it asks for professional and also personal references. I'm putting professors/principals down for professional, and I'm assuming personal means people that can vouch for you character, such as friends?

Congrats on the job! I would still send a card and let them know how glad you are to be working in their district.

And yes, the professional would be people like administrators and personal are people who have known you for a long time like a good friend.

9 and 10th graders. Two biology CP classes, two environmental science CP classses, and a lower level environmental science taught with an aide because it is special services students mixed in. It seems like there is a good potential to stick with the district into next year with a tenure track position. It may not be for this teacher's classes, but there are other teachers leaving from both high schools in the district. The only problem is when will they be asking me to come back (if that happens). In the mean time I'm still searching for a position for the next school year. Applying for a job fair after I type this.

Sent the thank you notes btw :)

Congrats bioteachnj!!! That sounds great! Hopefully they will start talking to you about vacancies quickly, but they may not know a lot until after the school board budget passes or fails (I think the date this year is April 21 in NJ?). If people have already put in to retire, you should have a good shot, especially if they like you. Where in NJ are you? (you can pm me if you want)...I'll keep an eye out for openings for you :)
