So, the pound refused to let us take our cat home until the implanted the chip and vaccinations. The next day they called and said the vet was out. So, today, they called and said they put our cat down. We're still looking into what happened, but I'm SO FURIOUS that they didn't let us see our sweet cat before they put him down. I'm so angry. Why did they even put him down in the first place!!!??

That is horrible!!!!! Someone should look into that pound, it is inexcusable to put down any animal that someone wants. It is bad enough that they have to put down unwanted animals. Don't let them get away with this. They need to get thier $hit together.:eek:hmy:

This is horrible. They knew the cat had an owner and they put it down with complete disregard. You must be grief-stricken and so angry. I'm very sorry for your loss.

What makes me even more upset is that I wanted to go see him at the pound yesterday. I'm sure he was lonely and bored and I just wanted to play with him and pet him to cheer him up. But, we were unable to go. I just keep thinking, if I could only have seen him one last time.... :(

Peachy~I know it's easier said than done, but try not to think about 'what if's'. I just told my dh and he's upset too. He's just as much an animal lover as I am. He said he would have taken our daughter down there and told her that these were the people that killed our cat. Cruel? Probably, but those people would have at least maybe felt a little of what you're going through.

    :( I miss him.

That is just awful! I don't understand how they can do that when they knew you were coming to pay the money and get the cat as soon as the doctor was back to do the shots. I would definitely document the things they tell you in case you one day decide on some legal action. I would also report it to someone, but I have no clue who. It needs to be investigated.

Sending lots of hugs your way!

So sorry Peachy... I don't get how they did that. Do they not have a "recover" act. What I mean is we got our dog from the pound... she actually was found the day we went to "look." We wanted her, but they said not until the 2-4 days they give for the owner to "recover" their pet. After that we could adopt or they could put them down (that has a certain number of days as well)....

I would definately do some investigating....

Very sorry. I was a bit vocal with my opinion about keeping the cat outside, but this is absolutely ridiculous.

That's okay. I do totally agree with you. I was never one for outdoor cats either, until this little fellow adopted us.

This saddens me but makes me very po'd too. For sure do some investigating and if small claims court is possible..do it. Nail those jerks and hopefully the place will get shut down.

Unbelievable-so sorry this happened. I'd even consider contacting the news. People should know. They do have laws to follow on how long they have to keep them-and for them to have found the owner and still put him down-that had to be pure error on their part, an unacceptable error! I'd also look into why they required you to do the chip-is that a state law or something because otherwise, they had no right.

I'm so sorry for you! Once you get over the initial grief, I would do some investigating. I would start with the manager of the shelter and move up from there. I agree that maybe you could go to the TV station and see if they will investigate. You may not be the only family who has experienced this tragedy.

I am so sorry. What reason did they give? Didn't you say you had to pay a bunch of money to them to get the cat back? Then it absolutely was yours. I would contact the news about this.

To destroy an animal that has a home - or a potential home - unconscionable and is actually animal cruelty. Personally, my goal would be to get someone fired.

I'm not a vindictive person, but I really want to hit below the belt on this one. Whoever was responsible should have a picture their face with sign that says "likes to hurt and kill dogs and cats for no reason" on every elementary school playground. Let's just say a road trip down your way with a case of red spray paint crossed my mind. I deplore vandalism, but if I read in the news tomorrow that all of the employees of an animal shelter had their car windows smashed out, I would smile. That's what people who are that cruel or incompetent deserve.
