I have my final interview with the superintendent today for the verbal offer I received last week. Hopefully I will have an iron clad contract by the end of the day and my schedule and everything for next year :)

Good luck! When I met with the superintendent for my current job, I had a contract to sign at the meeting. Hopefully they can offer you the same.

    Gladly!
    Fall:
General sophomore English (full year) 1 section
Reading Resource Grade 10/11 (full year, kids can move in and out) 1 section
American Writers Grade 11 3 sections

    Spring:
General sophomore English (full year) 1 section
Reading Resource Grade 10/11 (full year, kids can move in and out) 1 section
Modern Fiction grade 11 2 sections
General Composition grade 11 1 section

I'll have 3 preps in the fall and 4 in the spring which will be a challenge but I just picked up a bunch of textbooks today so hopefully I will be familiar with the material over the summer!

How is having many preps a challenge? Doesn't that give you time to grade papers?

"Preps" means for how many different classes you have to prepare -- I'll teach five classes a day, but four of them will be different courses with different material.

    Sophs and Juniors-- what fun!

I always get such a kick out of teaching Sophs. They enter one way, and then grow so much during that one year. They tend to leave Sophomore year as the people they'll be, for better or worse.

And Math, I can see how you're getting confused, since the one word has two different meanings.

A Prep is the number of different classes you teach. And a Prep period is also a free period in your schedule, one that allows you time to prepare your lessons. It's the context that tells you which one is being used. Here it was the first.

YEA again for you studentTeach :)

Four preps is always a challenge; I had 4 this year for the first time in a very long time and I had forgotten what challenges 4 preps brings. If I might make a suggestion, look at your planning overall and remember to space out your due dates for major assignments. Also, it might look appealing to schedule tests all on one day for all your preps, but that usually means your students are probably turning in unit assignments all at the same time too.
