This AM, all 3rd-5th grade students at my site began taking the Smarter Balanced Field Test (here in CA, it's called the CAASPP).

I am soooooo incredibly relieved because every single student was able to log in without a hitch. All kids are currently testing and there have been zero issues whatsoever!

I couldn't sleep last night because I've heard that districts across CA have been experiencing innumerable issues with the field test! I guess I'll sleep well tonight!

We couldn't get 20 kids on at one time in one building last week; not a good sign.

    Congrats to you!

Sounds like your school, especially your tech people, did a terrific job prepping the online infrastructure. Those who did the grunt work deserve applause, as do those who realized that need had to be handled before the test.

wooohooo! So glad it is working out!

I am also in Cali and the first few days were nothing but issues and problems...not to mention the District gave my son's fifth grade the WRONG test.

I really need to give major kudos to the IT department in my district.

Although the computer tech at my site only works part-time, she has done quite a bit, too, to make sure that things would run smoothly.

My teachers have been very willing to attend the trainings I've offered and they've been extremely open to learning as much as they can about the test administration.

This has definitely been a team effort! :thumb:

Our first test was something to behold. Kids all got logged in, most took the wrong test, and our time estimates were waaay off. They finished it much more quickly than they should have (maybe because they took the wrong one...) but I'm eager to see how day 2 goes.

Of course, my particular kids got the honor of going first!

Ours is going smoothly as well. The kids don't seem to be too phased by it either, but we've been having them practice with the practice tests.

I'm a back up tester and I hope I won't have to do it. We're not testing high school, we have a junior high classroom, and they're the only ones testing.

I know they will do a test run way before just to get the kids log on, that's it. Then the actual day of the testing the big hurdle besides technology will be the keep the kids motivated to actually finish.

I did the ELA portion of the test today....smooth. Was very impressed with everything. Some very small and expected hiccups. Totally at ease with how it went today.

    Sassy. I like it.

Congratulations to the OP. I personally believe that more resources dedicated towards making public school employment attractive to talented IT professionals would result in a huge increase in student learning, teacher effectiveness, and general school efficacy.
