I would ask your principal to write a letter validating that you have been approved for a position in her school. You should be able to locate a pay scale for your district fairly easily... it is a public school so all information pertaining to the pay scale is for public viewing. Print off a copy of that pay scale and attach it to the P's letter. That should be enough validation for the property owner that you are working with. Good luck... I am sure everything will be just fine!
I had the SAME problem too. I was "hired" by a principal and when I called HR they were like "Uh.... no you're not" because of the SAME REASON! I ended up not getting the job... and it was a Maryland school system and from the school I graduated from! I feel your pain. I hope things work out differently than it has for me.
UPDATE: **I am REALLY mad right now** So apparently in Baltimore City there is an unspoken rule about new hires..that they must be hired before June 30th..which I thought is untrue because tenure teachers have until July 15th to submit their letters of intent.............
I'm assuming that Baltimore is where you were offered the job. What do you mean by "unspoken rule"? Where did you get this information? I would make sure that it's true before getting too upset. We are all pulling for you!
I can't believe that the principal did not know this! Make sure you keep contacting those other Ps with job openings in counties that are hiring new hires. I know that a lot of counties are doing just the opposite now... just starting to place new hires!
Wow, so sorry to hear about this. I think all you can do at this point is ask the P to make some calls to other Ps for you around the state. I think she probably feels bad for you and would help get you a job in another county. Ask her to do this.
My bad, is she already working on it for you? Usually the P's like to network with each other so I'm sure she is putting your name out there alot now and explaining the situation. Her loss is another P's gain. I'm sure you'll have another job in no time, think positively--if one P hired you, why wouldn't another. Think this time you will even have a glowing reference before you walk in the door.
Well, so this is a done deal? You are not getting the job originally promised to you? Or you are waiting to hear back if you have a job or not. Keep looking in the meantime. I know you are. Wish we could be more helpful. Support is about any of us can offer at this point. Good luck!
UPDATE:::: I am going up to headquarters tomorrow with all my paperwork demanding to talk to someone about this situation...because this is uncalled for! And..I found out that my name isn't even in the system...but when I log on to my account, all my information is there!!!!!
I am still not sure about the status of your situation... Is the job completely gone and you are out? Or is there still a chance that they will hire you? If you have been told that you are out, do you think that charging down there is going to win you the position? Or do you think that it will cement the fact that you will never work in this district ever? I understand that you have spent money(), and that the situation is unfairmad, and that you need a jobconfused. But if there is no job to be had, do you think that making a big, loud, fuss will endear you to the district office people so that when there IS a position that they will be sure to call you? I am not trying to say you are wrong in going down tomorrow. I am not saying you are right. I am saying that before you go in there with guns blazing, that you think about the soft sell. Remember, you catch more flies with honey.... All the best and I wish you good luck! :thumb:
Don't burn bridges. As I said, people in education talk and you don't want to be that teacher that rudely walked into the HR office and demanded answers.
I am not going down there to make a fuss..I am going down there to see what the heck is going on..because apparently my information in the system is not even showing up for principals to view..this whole situation is confusing
Do you think it was taken out of the system for other principals to view bc you were "hired"? In that case it should be fixed.
Whatever happens, I wish you the best. Ultimately I hope you are able to get the position and can handle paying your bills (trust me, I'm in the same boat--- I'd be totally screwed if I didn't have a job in September). Good luck tomorrow and hopefully things will get straightened out!
I hope I get the job or at least some answers! And I can handle my bills once I get a job lol. I just want to be happy working in a system with kids and live decently
Wow....this is so confusing! Your head must be spinning!! I hope you find things out tomorrow either way. Better to know than not know. I dont understand how they could not hire anyone else after a certian date? I mean who knows enrollment numbers or teacher status by that date?! Im pulling for you!
Good Luck tomorrow Have you thought about writing down a timeline of the way the events played out? It might help you present your info clearly and make sure you remember everything. I know sometimes I have the tendency to go off track when I get emotional about things. Keep us posted . . . as others have posted, we are ALL rooting for you
You are right my head is totally spinning. Some people are like "this may be a sign this isn't for you" or "something is better for you out there" but I am not getting any calls or anything from other schools...so I am pushing for this one big time. I can't sleep because my mind will start racing about tomorrow.. I am just going to get up tomorrow, check my emails, get dressed, and head up there and try and remain professional telling anyone who wants and can hear my situation..I just want an answer!
Well I didn't exactly go down there..I did not want to deal with all that hassle and what not...so I sent an email to the CEO of the district..since he wasn't in town his away email said to contact the Chief of Staff...I then emailed her, she was out of town too!!! Her away email said to contact her assistant.. So then I forwarded the same email to this assistant..she called me and we talked about the situation. She understood how upset I was being that I have been waiting a month to hear something from HR and then suddenly its just taken away from me. She stated that she would make some calls and get back to me... So 3 hours later or so I get 2 phone calls. I call them back and the assistant said they are going to process my paperwork but normally they would not. Then I was told by my connection in HR that I have to go get medical clearance on the 13th but could not tell me anymore than that.. I want to say I am happy, a little relieved, but I am not out of the woods yet...
BUt much, much closer to "out of the woods!!!" I'm so very glad that your persistance and professionalism appear to be paying off!
I surely hope so..everyone I spoke to were really nice..once I get my hands on the contract and get my life together, I am going to send some thank you cards to them!
If they don't keep you after you proven how determined you are they would be crazy! Good on you for not giving up and throwing in the towel as I think there are some that would have. I hope this all gets figured out soon. When does your school year start?
The 30th..training for new teachers is next week. I can get in my classroom on the 16-17..everyone else then reports on the 23rd
Im so glad it seems to be coming along! Im glad you talked to some nice people who are willing to help!!! Keep us updated!
