I will be starting a 2 week (possibly longer) sub assignment in 2nd grade after Spring Break. I have never subbed more than a couple days in a row so I am excited. I really like it when teachers leave music to play to encourage the students to work quietly. I was thinking that maybe I would download my own on my ipod and bring my portable speakers since this assignment is longer. Any one have any music suggestions? Also, I would be open to any long term subbing advice. My plan is to try to use the behavior system and transition techniques the students are already used to. Thanks for any input!
Nora Jones and Eva Cassidy (some are upbeat, but the kids seem to really like them...I can usually count on hearing them singing the words to "Wade in the Water" by the 2nd or 3rd week of school!) The Eva Cassidy cd with "Over the Rainbow" is a great one!
I have a variety of different classical music that I play for my fourth graders. I thought that they would hate it. But they actually like it a lot and actually ask for me to put it on! You can find mix cds at walmart or target for about $10 each.
i have a math cd that my kids adore...i am getting tired of it but they love it and are learning thier facts!!
We heart Dr. Jean in first grade. Intellitunes is good too. I have those "Bach for Babies" and "Mozart Effect" cds which are nice to play during quiet times.
I went to a teacher's conference and heard of a pianist named Jim Brickman. I have since purchased and used 5 of his cd's in my first grade classroom. It is wonderfully relaxing and mostly instrumental. I call it our "working music" and I will turn it on whenever the children are working independently - writing, math, etc. There are one or two selections on each with lyrics but the children do not seem to be distracted by it at all. Enjoy!
I like George Winston. It's very upbeat and motivating. Makes you happy and gets you working, yet it is also relaxing. Give him a try.
Gary Lamb instrumental CD's My class enjoys Gary Lamb. It wouldn't allow me to include a link as I haven't posted very many times, but google Gary Lamb. Give him a listen and see if it is what you had in mind
2nd grade might be pushing it - but we really love Raffi. I have all kinds of Raffi songs on my computer and we play them during independent work time. It's cute because my kids kick their legs and sing along - generally the music deflects any bad attitudes or refusing to work because they are too busy singing and working....
My kids seem to have enjoyed Vivaldi's Four Seasons. We play that during work time, and then at the end of the day, when we have some extra time, I play Popular music and let them go crazy.
