Som of our favorite books are: Brown Bear, Brown Bear All books WRITTEN by David Shannon and some of his illustrated books also The Napping House Mouse Paint I can't think of anymore right now but I know we have more.... What are the books most enjoyed by your class?
Two of their all time favorites are by Shel Silverstein. The Giving Tree and The Missing Piece. Another is I'll Love you Forever.
Our kids LOVE David Shannon's BAD CASE OF THE STRPES and ALICE THE FAIRY. THey also like BRAVE LITTLE MONSTER (not sure of author) and CHicka CHickaBoom Boom. And the Numeroff books...If you give a.....
My kids aren't a huge fan of Alice the Fairy-- but they love David! They also love Duck on A Bike by him and Good Boy Fergus! We a have stuffed David and Fergus.
All of the Froggy books. Also, my all time favorite author is Jan Brett so any stories by her are wonderful.
My boys this summer are absolutely OBSESSED with Abayoyo, by Pete Seeger. I can't count how many times I've read it this summer!!!!!
For the longest time I was reading A BAD CASE OF THE STRIPES at LEAST twice a day. I brought in a few books from home to try to change that LOL.
Anything by Robert Munsch or Eric Carle. "Where the Wild Things Are", Clifford stories and the various versions of "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly".
I just LOVE "Piggie Pie"!!!!!!!!! Every group of kids that I read this book to falls in love with it too. Try reading it to your kids if you haven't already and I guarantee they will just laugh for days!!!
I love Chicka Chicka Boom Boom - I am sad that I finally bought the big book and now I am moving to 3rd grade. Anything by Kevin Henkes is wonderful. Where the Wild Things Are is a favorite. I love the David books!
Some of my favorites are The Kissing Hand, I'll Love you Forever, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. When I do the kissing hand, I use a washable marker to put a heart in the palm of the children's hands and they absolutely love it. They try not to wash that part of their hand when we do handwashing. I have to redo them several times but it is worth it to see their faces.
My class this year loved the bear stories by Karma Wilson (and so do I). They also had me read don't let the pigeon drive the bus by Mo Willems, A LOT! At a recent library field trip a child picked out a book and asked me to read it - it was Hairy Maclary, Sit. It was THE CUTEST BOOK! I had to find it - it was difficult, but ordered 5 Hairy Maclary books from someone on e-bay...cant wait to get them!!
"We're going on a bear Hunt" has always been a favorite with my preschool students. They also love "NO David"
NO DAVID is a big favorite. It would be read almost daily!! Every year a different class has a fav book. Others have been CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM and YO! YES?
I read A Bad Case of Stripesone year to a four year old class and we just happened to have lima beans for lunch that day. One little girl cried because she didn't want to eat the lima beans, but she didn't want to get a case of the stripes. My kids' favorites right now are the bear books by Jez Alborough.
I'm HS math, but I've got to share my son's all time favorite: The Lot at the End of the Block by Kevin Lewis. It's a "Mulbery Street" kind of book that keeps building, only it's on a construction theme. Brian just LOVED it in preschool, and it's still one of his treasured books at 8 years old.
any dr suese book. Alexander and the terrible horrible nogood very bad day, The Giving tree is a personal favorite, any boomer book, and Miss Bendergarden book
"Go away Big Green Monster", "Big Wide Mouthed Frog", "Mrs. Mcnosh does her Wash", and oh my goodness I could go on and on!
I LOVE "We're Going on a Bear Hunt!" My nephew is not yet 3 and he goes into this whole dramatic acting with it...
Mine love "Cookie's Week", about a cat that gets into trouble each day of the week. They especially like when he falls into the toilet!
You HAVE to find this on tape. It is read by James Earl Jones, and boy does he add to the story with his voice! Every class I have ever had loved that story so much, even the parents were asking about it!
We love the Hairy Maclary books too - my favourite dog is 'Schnitzel Von Crumm with the very low tum' I also love books by Mick Inkpen and Eric Carle
I was a preschool teacher 2 years ago and my students (ages 3-5) loved the Froggy Books by Jonanthon London. There are several books in the series. Use a high pitched voice for Froggy and the kids will love it even more! My favorite books to read!
Our bunch loved Go Away, Big Green Monster so much that sometimes on the bus I could hear them reciting it to each other. They also loved I Love You, Stinky Face, anything by Dr. Seuss, No Matter What by Debbi Gliori... And all of the Little Critter books... And my personal favorites (although honestly, I own most of the books above, even though I've got no kids of my own) are Parts, Little Pea, and I Hate You! I Like You! But I am a certified book nerd... It's where all my money goes to... Books, and shelves for the books.
Lainie, you sound like me...I was showing my 2 new picture books to my mother, and my brother was in shock! He doesn't understand why I took them out if my nephews aren't over...I just got 2 see through books-Are Elephants Tiny? and Are Eggs Square? I have all but one of them now...

nmk, Children's Books make me wild and crazy...I finally have a grandson to buy books for!!! Even before that, I was collecting favorite children's books. For some reason, I am drawn to the old Peter Pan books. I went rummaging this weekend and bought lots of books. One of them is , "Is Your Mama a Llama?" Another beautiful book I got is, "Nana Upstairs & Nana Downstairs." Have you read it? An adult book I bought is called, A Celebration of Babies." It's a collection of poetry and writings about babies and small children, by Sally Emerson. It's very sweet.
Wow, someone else truly loves "Nana Upstairs, Nana Downstairs"!!!!!!! I've loved this book since I began working with children years ago. I found it and have never let it go.
I never actually read "Nana Upstairs, Nana Downstairs," although I have seen it. I think maybe it's time to read it...I got some big books last week at a discount store-my nephew really likes them. I got a few others as well, and oh boy! I'll never hear the end of it!
Our all time favorite is "The very Hungry Caterpillar" It was always my favorite as a child too, so I think that's why I always lean towards reading that one so much. The kids all love it, and can tell ME the story now! lol...
My 4 and 5 year olds are just crazy about magazines...ANY magazines! I brought in my old COTTAGE ones and they will sit and look at them and discuss them forever! I also have the Backyard magazine that is full of animals/science and they love that one, too. Nice to see such an interest in reading!
