i am getting married august 1st and i need to pick a good father/daughter song for our dance. i am not into the typical, cliche stuff, although I know i may not have a choice lol. any good ideas? something more modern would be good.
The last wedding I attended, the father/daughter dance was a happy thing, not an overly sentimental weepy song. I LOVED that! They did "My Girl." Don't know who it's by...it goes....I guess you'd say, what can make me feel that way?, My girl, my girl, my girl, talking 'bout, my girl...my girl!!! Kim
Older choices, and sappy, but my dad and I danced to "Wind Beneath My Wings"; my husband and his mother danced to "Through the Years" (Kenny Rogers). I'll have to think about newer songs...
Stealing Cinderella - Chuck Wicks I Loved her First - Heartland My Little Girl - Tim McGraw I didn't use any of these, but I tear up just hearing them!!!
I let my dad pick and he picked Bridge over Troubled water-- Whenever I hear songs now I think about whether or not my girls could dance to that with their dad...I love My Cinderella (I can't remember who sings it. I like the ones Diznee mentioned also.
Nu-uh! When my DD gets married, that's what she and her dad will dance to. When she was still in diapers, he'd put on Joe Cocker and dance around the room with her in his arms. I'll be a big pile of goo!
My dad and I danced to "Unforgettable", the version with Nat King and Natalie Cole. My husband cut in and took over the ending of the dance. It still makes my eyes well up three years later.
Look up Steven Curtis Chapman's Cinderella song... If my dad had been at my wedding, I think that is the song I would like to have danced with him. It really is beautiful
I like the idea of the happy songs. Everytime I hear "I Loved Her First", I think what a great father/daughter wedding song that is.
How about "Daughter" by Loudon Wainright? I love that song. You can google the lyrics. It's one of my favorites.
My SIL and FIL danced to Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" and about halfway through the dance they had all of the fathers and their daughters join in. My husband and I did our father/daughter and mother/son dances together and our song was "The Way You Look Tonight" by Michael Buble.
We did our father/daughter and mother/son dance at the same time as well - and we danced to "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story. It was actually really sweet!
I also like "Tough Little Boys" by Gary Allan... 'When tough little boys grow up to be dads, they turn into big babies again."
I just got married this past weekend and I used "I Loved Her First." There's also "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts, "I Hope You Dance" by Leann Womack, "I Just Love You" by Five for Fighting, "In My Arms" by Mark Wills (love this one), and "It Won't be Like this for Long" by Darius Rucker.
My daddy and I danced to "Thank Heaven for Little Girls". DH and his mom danced to "Crocodile Rock"- Elton is my MIL's favorite musician. I didn't want to pick the traditional wedding music.
I sobbed when I first heard "In My Arms." When my daughter was born I made her dad a DVD of her pictures that had that song playing in the background.
I used "Always be your baby" by Natalie Grant. Great! Made my dad cry!! http://www.christianlyricsonline.com/artists/natalie-grant/always-be-your-baby.html
I know it'll NEVER happen, but the perfect song for me and my dad to dance to would be Rodney Atkin's "Cleaning This Gun." He actually did it when I was in high school
I was watching America's Funniest Home Videos and there was a video showing a father/daughter dance. They were dancing a fast song and everybody loved it! It wasn't your typical slow, sappy song and it took everyone by surprise. In fact, the song was kept a secret until that moment so everyone would be surprised. I thought it was a neat idea.
When I took my DBF home for the first time, my dad just happened to be going hunting. lol. So he walked right by him with a loaded shot gun. lol. That has been a joke for awhile- guess Dad liked you - he had every opportunity to get rid of you. lol. So that would be a good song for us too. lol.
I've already picked out "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw for whenever I get married. It explains my dad and I perfectly. I love this song.
This song is pretty funny when he does it live as well because he talks about "those" boys coming to meet his teen daughter!!! LOL!!!
I did a search of the top 10 Father/Daughter songs and this is what popped up: 1. Butterfly Kisses - Bob Carlisle 2. When Angels Fly - Tony Ransom 3. I Loved Her First - Heartland 4.
