My son's teacher just emailed the parents (he is in Pre-K (4 & 5 yrs) wanting to know if we had any suggestions for farm games and activities. They are wanting to celebrate farm day. I think that will be a nice change, since we live on a tropical island. Does anyone have any ideas?

What about making butter. Put heavy cream into small containers (baby food jars or whatever will seal well). Fill about half way and shake shake shake. It gets thicker, then separates and you get delicious butter.

I just made a really cute matching/fine motor activity by cutting horse shapes without legs from craft foam. I bought plastic clothes pins from the dollar store for the legs. They can be matched by color or I put uppercase letters on the horses and lowercase letters on the legs.

I laminated pig shapes and have the kids count pennies.

There are a million ideas - search farm theme under google.

Wow, scmom! Those are some great ideas!! I would definitely use the butter activity. Would you let the students taste their butter?

Definitely - I always let them have butter with crackers for snack. Another activity is to use a tractor (the Little Tykes one works great), "drive" it through black paint, and drive it over a piece of green paper. It makes adorable tire tracks!

Call your county extension agent. They are wonderful about providing info. Where are you located?

For my son's 4th birthday party, I made hobby horses out of dowel rods and monkey socks (those brown socks with red heels). Lots of relay race ideas for kids using the horses to "ride" on.

The kids can make Farm Animal puppets using brown paper bags.

A fun game could be...Let's go to the duck pond. Have a little pool filled with plastic ducks; on the bottom of each duck you could put a number 1-10. They could "win" little prizes that match with the number.
    have fun!
