Being that it is Black History Month, I would like to show my third grade students the documentary Eyes On The Prize. Do you think this documentary is OK to show third graders? I love the actual news footage and I think it is important for children to see actual footage in order to fully understand what life was like. Thanks.

This is one of my favorite PBS programs of all time. However, I wonder if the vocabulary is a little much for third. You'd have to introduce a lot of context. I also feel like my third graders last year would have been a little bored by the interview style of presentation.

I watched the series years ago. It's amazingly moving and powerful. You should preview the excerpts you want to show, just choose snippets to emphasize the understanding you want your kids to get...
There's a lot of prior knowledge third graders generally don't have...

It was used in upper-division college history classes at UC when I was there.
