Hi everyone. Hope you are all doing great.

I have moved to 4th grade and I am loving it. I have my hands full though.

Anyway, I assigned my kids some extra credit in math. I'm wanting to know how you might count extra credit in your grades. Do you give it a whole separate grade and factor it in or do you add points to grades that are already there?

    Thanks so much,
    Lemon

Hi there! I am opposed to extra credit, but if I offered it I would have a category for it so everyone knows that the grades for actual assignments are legitimate.

Our gradebooks are online and we can't just add points to an existing grade. I put in an assignment and assign it a possible points of "0". I can use this for extra credit for the entire grading period and a kid can know exactly how many extra credit points they have.

I use extra credit for effort or participation grades. Also if the student is on the boarder line of a grade I will bump them up.

What kind of extra credit for math did you offer?

I would replace the lowest assignment grade with the new grade or add a certain number of points to a test grade (say 5-10 extra points).
