Fingers crossed that someone will be able to help me. I've looked online but the advice I've found has confused me even more.

I have an MacBook (it's old... from 2008). I have a Samsung external hard drive (it's new... from about 6 months ago).

For the past 6 months I've had no problems. The other day, I tried to delete something off of my hard drive and I'm getting an error message saying my hard drive is locked and files can't be deleted. Files also can't be moved, or added, or edited :dizzy:

How did this happen and how can I unlock it? I'm sure I didn't click anything unusual or do anything out of the ordinary.

P.S. There isn't a box to click to "unlock" in the "get info" section.

Thanks in advance. Also, currently out of the country so I can't take it to the Apple store like I normally would, haha!

    Hard drive might be dying.

If you have a desktop, try prying the thing out of the case and putting it in the desktop - the enclosure might be dying.

Google the error message. That may help you out.
