exploring jobs they haven't had a lesson in?

    Hello!
I've had two pieces of advice and I was wondering what you're take is.
One trainer has told me that she lets her kids "explore" materials/jobs that they have no had a lesson in. Another teacher has told me that she absolutely will not let the child touch a job they haven't had a lesson in.
I see the pros in cons in each. Do you have experience trying both? What has worked best for you? How do you enforce your policy?

    thanks!

I don't know what you mean by jobs, but I have let students explore materials before the lesson. Usually it is science or math and I want to see what original ideas they can come up with before I formally teach them. Helps the students begin thinking outside the box.
