I was wondering if anyone had some ideas...

I am finishing our explorer unit by having an "explorer day." I want to do something fun that the kids will remember for a culminating activity. We just studied Columbus, Erickson, Marco Polo, Dias, and DeGama.

So far, I'm going to tape off a section of the room for our "ship" and the kids can't leave it because we are sailing. We are going to write letters in bottle about how it's on the ship and switch them with another class. I was also going to have biscuits as a snack.

Does anyone have any other fun ideas?? Thanks so much!! :)

Check out Beth Newingham's site: http://hill.troy.k12.mi.us/staff/bnewingham/myweb3/

If you go to Social Studies and then the Titanic (it's at the bottom), you might get some more sailing ideas! I know it's not the same unit, but it might give you a start. ;)

What about a treasure map or scavenger hunt when you arrive at your "country of exploration" at the end of your journey?

When I taught 5th we did an experiment preserving apples with salt and sugar to show how food would degrade on the boat. It was jus disgusting enough to intrigue them withou being too gross. PM me if you want details
